Hello everyone, I'm Ceseca. Welcome to Ceseca's podcast
How is the weather in everyone's country?
I
Where I live recently feels quite autumn-like in the morning and evening
The heat of insects has disappeared
I'm spending time with the feeling that summer is ending soon
Today, it's a theme I've been wanting to talk about for a long time
But I don't want to have a meeting explaining that work is like this
Because I myself
I've been an idol otaku since I was in junior high school
It's been over 15 years now
So today, I'm going to talk about what has changed between being an otaku in the past and working now
I'm thinking of talking while attaching my own personal experiences to all of that
In childhood, some pretty embarrassing stories might come up
Also, I recently went to Oshi's concert
I'm thinking of talking about that in the latter half. So, please take care of me today as well
First, let's look at the word 'oshi'. This
It comes from the verb 'osu', which originally means 'to recommend to someone'
そこから
From there
It came to mean the person you support the most is called 'oshi'
I wondered when 'oshi' becomes 'oshi'
In my case, there is a standard
If I start spending time or money on them, I think they've become my 'oshi'
It's not like I decide from today that this person is my 'oshi'
Before I know it, it's already happened
Before I know it, I'm watching; before I know it, I'm spending money
My 'oshi' is Big Bang. Especially Taeyang. From junior high school
I started liking him seriously and have been ever since
I knew his songs since elementary school, but it wasn't like I was crazy about him
It's surprising. Yeah
For male idols, I think Taeyang is really the first and last one for me
Yeah, the last one
Here, I'd like to introduce just one term
There's a word called 'hako o tojiru'
It means
'Hako' refers to
The entire group, not just one person but everyone
So it means you like all the members
That's what it means
Supporting all members of the group
That's the feeling. And as for me, I'm wholeheartedly
Supporting Taeyang while
Closing the box on the Big Bang era
I like all members, but Taeyang stands out as my 'oshi' among them
By the way, for female idols, I really liked various groups in the past
I was an omnivore
Being an omnivore means liking various things without settling on one
From here, I'll talk about my past
It might be a little disgusting, so please don't listen, okay?
So first of all
the word I want to introduce
is the term 'gachi koi' (serious love).
'Gachi' means 'serious', so
it refers to a situation where you're seriously in love.
I
since middle school
was exactly this. I was already seriously in love.
A person you truly like. Well, recently it seems like 'real', it's a shortened version of 'being in love in real life.'
But it has the same meaning, though the way of saying it has changed.
So, what my room at that time was like was
I had posters plastered all over the walls.
So much that you could hardly see the wall.
And, well,
that wasn't enough.
Even when sleeping,
I wanted my idol to be in my line of sight.
だから
So
I put posters on the ceiling.
When I looked up while sleeping, my idol was there.
Wasn't that the best?
Well, now I wonder what my family thought about it.
I spent almost all my allowance on my idol. Or rather,
it wasn't enough.
So when it ran out,
親おや
I would
borrow money from my parents to buy merchandise.
In other words, I was a middle schooler who went into debt to my parents over my idol.
Moreover, my catchphrase at the time was
'It's okay, I'll pay you back when I'm successful.'
'Pay back when successful' means 'I don't have money now, but I'll repay you when I become successful in the future.'
A middle schooler saying that isn't realistic, right?
But my family basically supported me.
Well, they even lent me money,
and this is something I'm really debating whether to say, but
I'll say it anyway.
At that time, my email address
of course included my idol's name. And it was their real name, and the password was also of course my idol's.
It had numbers and names related to that, and moreover, I set the last two digits of my phone number to my idol's
birthday.
My entire life was my idol, you see.
Oh, by the way, I'm writing now, I'm writing now, but here I'd like to introduce one more term.
There's a term called 'dou-tan' (same bias).
It refers to fans who support the same person as you.
The bias is the same.
I'll just put this around here.
There's also a term called 'dou-tan kyohi' (anti-same bias),
which means being a bit uncomfortable with fans who like the same person. Well, that was me.
I liked the same Ji-draggo.
Friend
If someone is there, of course, I like the same person, so I'm happy, and there are also stories to tell, but
Somewhere, somewhere in my heart, no, but somehow I thought, 'No, I don't like this.'
There was some kind of mysterious competitive history, like, 'I like him more than you do,'
ね
Yeah
Well, that's not a place to compete at all, but I am
I was serious.
And well, I took action and was the first to
No, even I myself think it's amazing, this one here
まずね
First of all,
When there were reports of passionate love or something, I cried for hours and hours
Even though it had nothing to do with hours,
For days, I was tough
Another time, I heard him talking about his type of favorite woman in a magazine interview or something
There, he
said he likes long black hair.
At that time, I had brown bob hair.
はい
Yes
The moment I saw that interview,
I went to a drugstore,
bought hair dye,
dyed it jet black, and then
I kept growing it out.
I didn't think about anything else. Oh, so that's what you like? Got it, then I'll do that for you, I thought.
In the end, I really grew it out to about my waist length,
ところが
But then,
a few years later,
this time,
he started saying he likes short black bobs. What?
I thought, 'It's not long anymore?'
But this time, too, I didn't hesitate; I cut the hair that had grown to my waist straight down to about here.
No, thinking about it now, it was pretty drastic,
but at that time, I really wanted to be closer
even a little to his type
of favorite, and in my heart, that felt like the right thing to do.
もう
Really.
And well, from here on is today's main point: what has changed from the past to the present.
First, the language has really changed.
When I was in junior high school, the word 'otaku' was common, and since there were relatively many otaku around me,
it was an atmosphere where it was easy for me to say, 'I'm an otaku,'
but at that time, the word 'otaku' seemed to have a slightly more negative image than now.
Like being gloomy or scary.
I think there are people who have actually been told such things.
Now, though, the word 'oshi' or 'oshi-katsu' has become very common.
It's used normally on TV too
and it doesn't feel like it's just for young people anymore.
By the way, I still use the word 'otakatsu' more than 'oshi-katsu'
probably because of the generation, right? It must be this, yeah.
What I feel has changed the most is
that more people are enjoying being otaku themselves.
In the past, it was something closer to being hidden, but now, being an otaku itself has become something like part of fashion.
Sometimes it can look like it has become
おしに
Oshi
あ
Ah
Like posting photos of oshi activities, for example
Or like, yeah, one of those photos, yeah, photos, hmm, hmm, or something like that
Taking those to a cafe and taking photos together with drinks and such
おしの
Oshi's
Or collecting things like goods, clothes, and accessories from oshi, for example
Even if I go to a 100-yen shop, there's oshi activity stuff
Like having something and putting one of those in a case, or decorating accessories, for example
When I first saw that, I was surprised
あと
Also
I heard that hotels also have services for oshi activities before
To lay oshi's plushies down to sleep
There are apparently hotels where they prepare a small bed if you request it
Yeah, I thought it's an amazing era, right? It's surprising
Like, personally, I haven't done things like taking accessories to a cafe and photographing them
No, I've never taken them to a cafe and photographed them
Yeah, that culture is amazing, I think it's a great culture, it seems fun, and it's nice to be open about it
Also, well, this is also, but nowadays 'oshi' isn't just for idols, but also for actors and anime characters
And even for comedians, if anything
It can be used, so I think it's a very convenient word
So, well
This is also big, but
Really
I think the way of gathering information has changed
When I was in elementary school
Oshi information was mainly from TV, whether they appeared on TV shows, that was everything
Ah, and after that, you get notices from fan clubs
Like, when oshi appears on TV, I watch it in real-time
Record it and then watch it back many, many times, that kind of thing
Also, in the past, CDs or
Buying DVDs
Was also a big part of otaku activities
Because it wasn't streaming like now
Like, there's probably a common experience, I think
I've also bought the same CD many times
Why? Because of bonuses, or lottery tickets for later studio tours and such, they're included
To win, I bought quite a few, I think
And actually
I've received a revival letter before
That was amazing too
And I still believe it, but at that time, I think there might have been a misprint
いや
No
I believe I won. Like
That's nice, it's happy, things like that
From around the time I was in middle school, SNS gradually became the main
Information source, Twitter at the time, now X
From around high school, I started using Instagram little by little
And with that, things changed a lot
It's like this...
Like even if I miss a TV broadcast or forget to record, fans on social media will
upload it for me, which has become
completely normal now.
And now, what's happening is that the idols themselves are
uploading things on their own.
Isn't that amazing? Instead of going through someone else, the idol directly posts things like what they ate today or where they are right now.
Even if they don't appear on TV,
some kind of information comes in every day.
Missing something is almost impossible now.
For me, who used to rewatch recorded TV shows dozens of times, it feels a bit like a different world.
And another thing
I've felt strongly lately is
the distance between idols and fans has become closer.
There are video call events and even apps where you can directly chat with idols.
You can talk one-on-one with them.
Wow, it's surprising, right? It feels like the times have changed. But honestly, I kind of...
have some thoughts about it.
Nowadays, even without going to concerts, you can see quite a lot on social media, so compared to the past...
I feel like a slight sense of rarity has disappeared.
In the past, there were more things you could only see if you went there in person.
That's why going there felt so valuable.
Not 'more valuable,' but 'bigger value.'
If
もし
I had known the value when I was a middle school student, and if there had been an event where I could do a video call with an idol, I probably would have...
not been able to handle it.
に
No way, no way, I think I wouldn't be able to breathe.
And recently,
I really think
trading card culture has become stronger.
Trading cards are mostly random, you know.
You don't know who's inside.
Honestly, I don't really like those random products.
The reason is...
I don't get the one I want.
I really don't. My luck is so bad it's surprising.
But I'm not the type to buy a ton until I get the one I want.
I traded with my fan friends.
Rather than looking for strangers to trade with, since I already had quite a few fan friends connected through social media, I mainly traded with them.
We would check if we didn't have the same favorite and then trade.
If we had the same favorite, we both wanted the same thing, so trading wouldn't work. But if we had different favorites, it would be like, 'Oh, I have that one! I can give it to you!'
And the trade would go smoothly.
That felt really nice.
And
yes.
This is an important point for me.
Well, it's actually quite a nice feeling
で
and
そう
right
this is an important point for me
I like Big Bang's [music] and started SNS, and there
I met
otaku friends
and actually met up and went to live concerts together
and among them, I still keep in touch with
some friends who even came all the way to Korea for my wedding
Started from [that kind of] relationship and continued to the wedding, isn't that really amazing?
and like going on expeditions
that's what it is
Going to distant towns for live concerts
By the way, going to live concerts counts as three battles
I'm not going to battle, but it counts as three battles
I've been going on expeditions since I was a middle school student
I'm from Hokkaido locally, but when I was in middle school, I even flew alone on a plane to go to a live concert
For distant places, I went as far as Fukuoka
I often come here, but you know, I also did a lot of sightseeing
します。だって
I do. Because
the live concert
is the purpose
And you know, otaku are actually quite busy on concert days
There's a lot besides the live concert
Line up from the morning to buy merchandise, meet up with otaku friends, take photos,
then watch the live concert,
there's no day for sightseeing, right?
There was also a time when I bought merchandise to complete the set
I have a lot of similar photos and merchandise at home
And this, people who know will understand, I think
I even bought items separately for appreciation and for use
For watching and for actually using
So, I used the same thing
Also, for my bias's birthday
There's something called the Cheonil event. Cheonil means birthday in Korean
Fans gather and celebrate,
For my bias's birthday,
I once reserved a venue
We eat as a family, though
In the past, before live concerts too
I was really obsessed with machines
I'd get my bias's name into clothes or nails,
My bias has many tattoos, so I'd get the tattoo's design on my nails,
and things like that. Before live concerts, going to the beauty salon was a given, and I'd prepare clothes days or even weeks in advance
There's only one reason. Because I want to meet my bias, I want to be as cute as possible
be able to meet
会あう
meet
or rather, go see them
that's how it is
So, how about now, you ask?
Honestly, I don't buy merchandise as much as I used to
Even if there are Cheonil events, I don't go and just do it on SNS
Oh, I see, I see. I guess I'll just watch it to see what kind of year it'll be this year.
But once there's a live show, the story changes completely. I'd fight tooth and nail to get a ticket.
That part hasn't changed even a millimeter.
So it's not that my feelings for my oshi have disappeared, but that my oshi is nails.
It feels like that's changed over time. Yeah.
Also, well, let me talk a bit about my husband too.
My husband, well, since I'm quite into Chidoragon,
I feel like he was a little jealous.
But, you know, recently
He actually helps me get tickets.
Before, I felt quite jealous, but now he's a part of my ticket-getting team.
です
Yes.
He's quite good at it too, so he gets me good seats and all.
I'm happy. You know?
We're talking about going together to the next Big Bang concert if there is one. Yeah.
Yeah, also, there's a phrase often said among Japanese otaku.
'Oshi wa oseru toki ni ose' is the phrase, and it means 'Push your oshi when you can push.'
I really...
Yeah, I resonate with that. Because I have experience.
Big Bang, well, they used to be solo, but now they're active as a group of three,
あとね
And also,
Girls' Generation, whom I used to love.
My K-pop otaku life started with Girls' Generation,
There was a girl named Jessica in the group, and when she left the group,
I was so sad,
For about two or three days, I went to school but felt like I couldn't do anything, like I'd lost one reason to live. Yeah.
ね
You know?
So, having had this experience, that's why I think it's better to go when you can rather than waiting for the next live show,
かは
or
Yeah, go when you can.
Go when there's an opportunity.
Of course, you know, I don't think you need to push yourself too hard.
Money and physical energy are limited, after all.
But the phrase 'oshi wa oseru toki ni ose' really resonates with me based on my own experience.
That's a part I really empathize with. Yeah, so
Ah, okay, okay, okay. Let me talk about a live show I went to recently.
That Big Bang 20th anniversary concert held in Goyang, South Korea.
I went. It was the 20th anniversary!
How should I describe the feeling when I got the ticket? Yeah.
I felt like I had a reason to live.
That's how it felt. Not just exaggerating, really,
That's how it was.
ただね
But you know,
Recently, I just started being a YouTuber,
I'm still not quite settled into schedule management or my daily routine.
I'm still not used to this schedule thing.
だから
So,
I wasn't managing my schedule well and was all hectic, so honestly, up until about a week before the live show,
I hadn't even realized it.
I was like, 'Wait, the live show is already here?'
But you know, if it were the old me, I think I would have prepared with all my might.
For the live show, I'd go to the beauty salon, buy clothes, and practice makeup over and over, wondering how to do it.
So, if you ask what I did this time, the reason why I did the 'Yukuri Cinema' in the morning is
Simple. Because I'm not as young as I used to be.
It's about physical fitness.
Until nighttime.
To truly and fully support them
I thought if I used up my energy on preparations, I wouldn't be able to enjoy the actual event.
And also, it was an outdoor live, so for clothes too,
Rather than the recommended colors or dress code,
I prioritized more whether it would prevent sunburn or whether it was cool and comfortable.
I was completely thinking only about practicality.
For makeup too, it's going to sweat off anyway.
Anyway, it was about applying sunscreen thoroughly, but thinking about it,
Actually, I went to the 10th-anniversary live too, and that was also an outdoor event by Mana.
The conditions were similar, right?
But at that time, more than worrying about getting sunburned,
It was about whether I had the recommended color,
Those things were more important to me.
Wearing cute clothes, doing proper makeup, prioritizing appearance over the heat.
でもね
But you know,
For this 20th anniversary, whether I applied sunscreen, whether this outfit is cool, etc.
Well, to think it changes this much in ten years, I even laughed at myself a bit.
In the past, for the recommended look, I went to the beauty salon to be even slightly cute.
Where did that version of me go?
でもね
But you know,
My appearance and actions became calmer, but
My feelings hadn't changed at all from before.
なんか
Somehow,
I'm going,
の
of
from inside the bus,
I started getting all emotional, like 'ulu-ulu'.
Because it was a live show after a long time, a big band live,
Like, will they sing this? Or, I want to hear this, what kind of arrangements will they do compared to before?
Will the arrangements be the same?
While thinking about those things, various memories came flooding back, and I was getting all teary-eyed.
ね
You know,
Arriving at the venue, the number of people
was huge, as expected.
Every time I see it, I think it's amazing, and while waiting in front of the venue,
I was really looking forward to it, but the moment they appeared, I was like, 'Wow!',
I thought they're here, and I got goosebumps.
ああ
Ah,
Since long ago, I've been the type who cries a lot with Kimura-san.
But this time,
I cried even more, like a waterfall.
In Big Bang's songs, there are songs written for fans, and
This time, I was able to hear one live for the first time. It was so...
Like, really...
I couldn't contain my emotions
What I thought at that time was
That I was really glad to be alive
and
あ
ah
It was the feeling that I was glad to have liked them for so long
From my first year of middle school, doing housework while I've liked them for this long
liking the same person
and being able to properly see their 20th anniversary live concert, that alone was
truly happy
And well, during the live concert, there were many people around taking photos or videos
But I'm basically someone who prefers watching with my naked eyes
The reason is
Ah, also, when I looked at social media
Well, someone would upload an incredibly beautiful video anyway
and my phone's quality isn't good at all
So I think I want to see this moment with my own eyes, but more than that, basically
During live concerts, I don't have the leisure to take photos
When the live concert ended this time
It was both like 'That was truly the best' and 'It's over now' came to me at the same time
At the previous live concert, the next day I felt a bit of regret, like there was a hole in my heart
I regretted quite a bit that I should have gone both days
But this time it wasn't like that
No, it was truly the best. I felt like I could try hard again. I felt motivated to keep going from now on
But you know, I think I was in a very excited state that day
I couldn't sleep at all, and the internet was close to 6 AM or so. Yeah
ね
You know
I think this is the part I wanted to talk about most today
I fell deeply in love with Zico
Because of that
I started studying Korean. And now living in Korea too
If you trace it back, it's all connected here
I went to various places for the live concerts
If it weren't for the fans, I definitely wouldn't have flown alone as a middle schooler
And because the fans understood me, I made many wonderful friends
Also, well, it's still like this now, but when there are live concerts or events
Thinking that if I work hard, the live concert awaits, I can work hard at my job
In other words
Truly thanks to the fans
I'm happy. Yeah
I really think that things that can make you happy just by watching aren't that many in life
Of course, the fans don't know about me, but still
Just them existing makes me happy
When the fans seem happy, I get happy, and just having a live concert gives me something to look forward to
Even if something unpleasant happens
I can think of trying hard until the live concert
So, for me, the fans aren't just about taking photos or going to live concerts
They make my life a little, a little more
enjoyable, I think
Also, well, sometimes people say things like 'At my age, I'm still into idols,' but I don't care about that at all
I'm 50 years old
But I want to go to concerts even when I'm 60
I want to wave my penlight. Well, already
For that
I'll build up my stamina, right?
I had a thought after watching the 20th anniversary live concert,
Ah, the 30th anniversary,
も
too
I want to witness it.
Right? For that, I need to be healthy, don't I? I'll exercise, run, and build up my stamina.
Well then, today as well, I'd like to end by asking everyone a question. How is it? Do you have any favorites?
Like idols, actors, anime characters, sports players—anything goes. If you have a favorite, please tell me what kind of favorite it is.
And one more thing
This is something I'd especially like you to answer even if you don't have a favorite,
What makes you happy enough to work hard every day?
It could be food, travel, your own pet,
or even weekend fun—that's fine too.
Please tell me in the comments what you can work hard for because you have this.
I'm looking forward to it.
