Today we'll be trying some interesting, unique and delicious food at a Vietnamese convenience store.
So we're at Moon Milk, which is Vietnamese.
But let's go in find some delicious snacks, unique snacks, maybe something weird, maybe something delicious.

Right now I'm opening the door.
Oh, Frank.
Okay, so we have just entered the convenience store.
Hopefully that music isn't too loud so we don't get copyright strike.
But I've never seen a watermelon chocolate pie.
Have you ever seen one of these?
I've never.
I have had these.
These are similar to wagon wheels.
Oh, yeah.
In Canada, we have wagon wheels, but I've never seen a watermelon flavored chocolate pie.
But this is kind of like a lot.
There are 12 inside.
I would prefer if it came in a box like this with only six.
You might be able to get individual packages.
Oh, you think so?
Yeah.
うん。
This is like a mix of a convenience store, but a grocery store as well.
It's like a mix.
So we'll see if we can find a smaller package because 12 chocolate pie watermelon.
I don't know.
I don't know about that.
But let's see what else they have.
So there are a lot of packaged goods.
Something I want to get is at least one bag of chips, a chocolate bar, a drink, gummies, then whatever else I see that I like.
But at least one of each of those categories.
What about this?
This kind of looks like a wishing willow.
Oh, that does look kind of good.
But usually with stuff like that, they use like cheaper chocolate and the chocolate doesn't turn out that good.
Oh, you think so?
Yeah.
うん。
I wonder what's like very popular in Vietnamese here.
You know what?
Let me ask the chat.
So I guess we'll go with these O-Star barbecue flavored chips because online it said these are popular.
So let's get these.
OK, so we got the snacks here, you guys.
We got a bunch of snacks.
I think this is good enough for now.
We got a water just to wash it down.
But this is a very popular Vietnamese electrolyte drink.
We got all the stuff.
Let's go check out and buy it.
OK, so now we're checking out.
Probably going to be over a million.
OK, so we bought all the stuff.
I think this is the most amount of stuff I've ever bought for one of these videos.
But let's go try it all.
Well, I think we'll head back to our apartment because we have a nice balcony with a very nice view.
So we'll eat this while enjoying the view and the sunset.
We were going to eat this in the rice fields, but I think we'll save that for tomorrow.
We'll go explore that tomorrow.
But we have ice cream here.
So let's get a Grabbike and let's balance.
We are about to try a large selection of snacks from a convenience store.
On the table, we have chips, crackers, candy, dried fruit, packaged sweets, and several snacks with flavors that are completely new to us.
Some look familiar while others are much more unusual, which makes the taste test more exciting.
When we try each snack, we pay attention to the flavor first.
Some are salty and savory, while others are sweet, sour, spicy, or slightly bitter.
A few snacks may have a strong seasoning, while others taste mild and simple.
Sometimes the flavor changes as we chew, or it leaves an aftertaste that stays in our mouths for a few seconds.
Texture is just as important as taste.
Chips can be light, crispy, and crunchy.
Gummies are soft, chewy, and slightly sticky.
Crackers may be dry and crumbly, while dried fruit can be chewy, firm, and surprisingly crisp.
Cream-filled snacks can feel smooth on the inside and crunchy on the outside.
The variety is what makes snack tasting so enjoyable.
We are not only deciding whether something tastes good or bad, we are comparing flavors, textures, smells, and even the way each snack feels in our mouths.
Every package gives us something different to describe.
So right now, I'm standing beside this lake.
You can see the sun is starting to set behind those trees.
And I am going to sit down here on this ledge by the lake.

Okay guys, we got all the snacks laid out here on the table.
We got chips, crackers, meat, gummies, more crackers, bread stuff, ice cream, drinks, and a lot more.
So some of these are like very popular Vietnamese snacks.
Some of these are things that I just thought would taste good.
And some of these are just ice creams because it's hot out.
So now we're going to set you up on the tripod, try all these snacks and rate them.
This is the most amount of snacks I've bought to try at once, but let's just get straight into it.
Okay, let's start with the first two things.
So these are the first two things we're going to try since these are ice creams.
This one I think just looks delicious.
And this is cheese flavor ice cream.
Wow, dessert first.
This is just a warm up.
I guess let's try the cheese one first.
That is all yours, big dog.
Actually, sweet and cheesy is usually a good combination.
Like combination.
So that's what it looks like.
Kind of looks like a block of cheese.
Yeah, or yeah.
Oh, it's it's crusted.
I know it's going to be good.
It literally just tastes like cheddar cheese.
What?
え？
That's weird.
Oh, I don't know if I like it.
This is really Korean.
This reminds me of those Korean Doritos that are just so sweet.
Yeah, low key.
I guess it kind of has like Dorito flavor because it's cheddar.
I don't know why I like it.
That is all yours, big dog.
I don't like it.
It tastes like sweet cheddar ice cream, which is literally what it is.
Is that the outside?
外側？
That's cheesy or the inside?
Probably both.
The outside is like very crunchy.
So when I bit into it, you can hear it crack.
And the inside is not as yellow, but it still has that cheese flavor.
It's weird, but I kind of like it.
It's almost white chocolate ice cream, but there's just like a hint of cheese that throws you off.
These snacks cost, what's the price?
339,000 Vietnamese Dong, which is this much in USD.
Let's try this one.
This one looks more like a magnum.
I'm going to be honest.
This is low key growing on me.
It's growing on you.
It's growing on me because I just get that white chocolate flavor now.
Mmm.
んー。
Mmm.
んー。
Mmm.
んー。
Mmm.
んー。
Kind of good.
I had this before.
That's why I chose it again.
I think this is better than magnum.
Honestly, this is like so good.
I mean, that's like a popular combo, isn't it?
Yeah.
うん。
Milk chocolate with almond and vanilla on the inside.
And when you bite into it, it gives you like a beautiful like crunch.
And it's just so sweet.
And I just love it for that.
Mmm.
んー。
This is the one thing I'll eat the whole thing of because it can melt, right?
It's not going to last.
Anything else here we can save for later and have another time.
It's kind of good.
We'll throw this in that bag.
Yeah, I'll take a bite of this one now.
Obviously, I think this is one of the more popular coated ice cream varieties, like a nice milk chocolate with some sort of nut in the coating.
And the inside is just vanilla.
That one is so good.
You know how some chocolates, there's so many brands that do it like this.
Obviously, magnum is the best.
This is like, I think it's better than magnum.
This is really good.
Usually, it's always worse.
Like it always tastes more.
That chocolate's like really yummy.
So sweet.
It's on the rest of it.
Yeah, you can actually, you could have it.
I would, I would eat it.
I was like, yeah, I think let's go for the stuff that we'll love.
Wait, then go to go salty, sweet, salty, sweet.
Okay, but okay.
No, actually, let's have that for me.
I think having the ice cream and like the freshly baked stuff is probably smartest.
You'd see like a piece of chocolate coming out there.
I should cleanse my palate first.
So do you want to pass me that water?
Take a sip of that.
Now, cleansing your palate is like removing flavors from something you ate previously.
And it's like more well known and like professional food tasting.
Like what do they call it when people taste things for a living?
Somme allie?
That's like a person that drinks.
I don't know.
It would be like a connoisseur.
There's a specific word for it.
This I can tell has been sitting there all day because it's very stale.
It's like oily and it's not like fluffy and crunchy.
It's not that.
If it's like that, then I'm good.
I'm not going to try it.
It's not that good.
It's not worth it, but it's in a brown paper bag and you can see the grease there.
What do you want to try next?
I'll let you decide.
Okay, I think I'd like something salty.
So maybe let's try these.
You think this is salty or no?
Or maybe let's try the meat.
Yeah, I think if you want something salty, the meat is the best thing to choose.
So this is Vietnamese beef jerky, like a slice.
Let me grab a piece.
Is there an English name or no?
I think what?
This is just one big piece.
Oh, is it?
Is there anything in there?
Dude, look at this.
Look at the...
この……見て。
I guess I'll just eat the smell.
Look at the detail on this piece of meat.
Yeah, I know.
They got that thing.
What the heck?
I'll rip you a piece.
I'll rip it in half.
You can, because it's probably really tough.
I ripped along the grain.
So you can see the grain goes up and down.
It's a very deep orange and you can see a lot of spice on it.
What does it smell like?
A lot of fish, yeah?
I smell like some sort of fish paste or shrimp paste.
A little bit.
Oh, that's tough.
I'm gonna have to rip a piece.
It's chewy.
Right off the bat, very sweet.
This was sweeter than the ice cream.
Oh, that was not salty.
That was the wrong choice.
Maybe we should have read the bag.
Does it say anything there?
No additional color, no preservatives.
I don't really like this.
It's very tough.
Like it's spicy and sweet.
I don't know if I like that at all.
It wasn't what I was thinking it was gonna taste like.
If I was going in thinking it was gonna be sweet, like I did mention before I want something salty right now, but that was really sweet.
A little bit spicy.
A little bit spicy, yeah.
But did you taste any meat or no?
I didn't taste any meat in there.
So this is Revive.
In my opinion, this is like the best electrolyte drink in Vietnam.
Yeah, I gotta do a palate cleanse on this one.
Very, very good, but very sweet.
Since you clearly cooked us on that one.
Yeah, I'll let you choose this one.
Hopefully this is, I feel like this is all just gonna be very sweet.
But I wanted to say something else about the meat.
Me and Voca are a little spoiled because our mom makes really, really good dried meat.
She makes really good biltong.
She sells African, so.
Yeah, so that is, in my opinion, the best dried meat in the world, biltong.
So it's kind of hard to beat our mom's biltong.
And obviously that packaged jerky is not gonna be homemade biltong.
Yeah, but South Africans are known for their dried meats.
Yeah, that's one thing I love about South African food, all the dried meat.
Exactly.
Anyway, what's our score so far?
What's the win-loss ratio?
Okay, let's say, would you buy it again or would you not buy it again?
Yeah.
うん。
So first thing we tried, ice cream, cheese ice cream, would you buy it again?
No.
You wouldn't buy it again, okay?
Chocolate ice cream.
Hell yeah.
That'll be one one tied.
The pastry we had, would you buy that again?
No.
I mean, I like that type of pan with chocolate.
The style but not that exact one.
Without it was mid.
And then the meat.
I wouldn't buy it again, no.
So we've got one win and three losses so far.
We've counted up on screen.
Hey, what is this flavor?
O star.
Oスター。
That's the brand, right?
But the flavor is going to be some sort of...
Cheese rib barbecue.
All I say, doesn't taste like much.
Not really, no.
It's not loaded with flavor.
Doesn't taste like much at all.
It's just a savory chip, right?
A little bit of sweetness in there?
Oh no, I don't think I would get this specific flavor again, just because it doesn't have a lot of flavor.
It's all right.
I mean, if you're really craving chips, I think it'd be a good flavor to go with.
But the crunch is nice.
You choose.
Okay, let's do the pork floss bun.
I know you were on the fence about this one, but...
I don't like pork floss.
I've tried these before and I found them really, really good.
Let me tell you a story.
When I was flying from Tokyo, Japan to Athens, Greece, I had a 16 hour layover in Singapore.
So I went out of the airport and I went exploring and I came across this bakery.
This was after I ate at a hawker center.
So I was looking for something sweet, right?
So I came across this bakery and everything just looks so good.
Like all the pastries, just everything looks so delicious.
And then I saw this one pastry.
Mind you, I only got two pastries total.
I saw this one pastry that looked like it had like these flakes, these golden flakes of like...
Caramel.
Sugar or something.
And I'm like, that looks delicious.
Like caramel hair.
Yeah, it looks so, so delicious.
So I was like, you're coming home with me.
You're coming home with me.
So I bought that and I think I bought one other thing.
And I was almost going to buy like two or three of those.
I was like, okay, let me buy one.
I bought it and it was the first thing I tried.
When I bit into it, I was so excited for like a delicious sweet caramel pastry.
And it was just pure salt.
And I was gagged right there.
I was like, I was like, what the...
って。
Because it just tasted like pork.
Yeah, pork floss.
And I was like, oh my God, dude.
Do you know how...
I don't think I've ever been that disappointed in my life.
I get that.
I tried something, dude.
Oh.
It's the one you remember, right?
Like you don't remember the other pastry you had.
I don't remember.
You remember that pork floss.
Yeah.
But you know how they make pork floss?
They take pork, they cook it a really long time, and they start to dry it.
And then once it's like a little bit dry, they beat it.
All those little strands, individual strands of muscle and meat separate.
And that's how it gets that fluffy, flossy texture.
Anyway, let's try the pork floss bun.
If you ever look up TikTok recommendations for what snacks you should buy in Vietnam, these always come up at the top of the list.
People apparently really like these.
Mmm.
んー。
It's just a bun.
Literally, there's no saltiness or anything.
It just tastes like a nice moist cake.
Are you sure there's pork floss in it, though?
Uh-huh.
うん。
Mmm.
んー。
It's actually so good.
Bro, if I eat it, and you're lying...
Honestly, I'm going to have another one.
I had these a while ago, and oh, they're good.
I like it.
好き。
I didn't compare it to something.
Almost like a Castella cake, but there's a little bit more resistance when you bite into it, which adds to the texture and adds to the experience.
Dude, if you mess me up, man, okay, let me try it.
Mmm.
んー。
Look at all the hairs in there.
It's just a bun.
Like, if I gave you this and I didn't tell you anything, you could not tell me that there was pork floss in there.
Like, you can feel the resistance, right?
That's from the floss, but it doesn't add any flavor.
Okay.
It's good, right?
Okay.
Okay, you pass.
It's just a cake.
Just a cake with extra texture.
Not bad.
Your choice.
What do you feel like eating?
These, I think, will be absolutely divine.
You know, I think we've tried those.
I don't think so.
I remember distinctly eating some kind of coconut crackers somewhere.
In Vietnam?
Oh, it was on the boat in Ha Long Bay.
I remember they had, like, crackers as snacks.
They had these coconut crackers there.
I don't think I tried them, but these look very good.
Oh, yeah.
Honestly, I like anything coconut.
One of my favorite coconut snacks is the coconut bars that they have in Ecuador.
Oh, yeah.
They make them in a province called...
Esmeralda.
Yeah, they make them everywhere, but they mostly come from Esmeralda, which is a province in Ecuador, and they're so good.
They're, like, brown sugar and coconut, and they're my favorite.
They're made with, like, shaved coconut and sugar cane.
Oh, yeah.
It's like sugar cane sugar.
It becomes, like, very dark, dark brown.
Dark and chewy.
Yeah, I forget what it's called, but I'll put up a picture on screen.
It's very, very...
I'll have to ask my parents.
It's not in cocado.
But anyway, let's try these.
Oh, they smell like coconut a lot.
Oh, wow.
Smells really good.
What does this remind me of?
Super crunchy.
Chinese restaurant fortune cookie.
Oh, yeah.
Literally.
I knew it.
A little more crunchy than a fortune cookie, but the flavor is exactly the same.
Very similar.
These are better, though.
It looks just like they took a bunch of coconut flakes and just pressed them into these crackers and then dried them.
I would get this again.
Oh, yeah.
That's a W.
I would not get this again.
What?
え？
It's not bad, but...
They're so good.
I'm not gonna go, like, "Oh, I'm gonna go get a pork floss.
" Yeah, but if I gave this to anybody without telling them what it was, they would never guess.

This Fribey's Shrimp, I mean, Crab...
Rice cake crackers.
Rice cake, yeah.
I'm not a huge fan of, like, fishy flavors in my snacks, but...
Dude, you always buy the shrimp crackers.
I guess I might be lying.
You literally always do.
Those are, like, a different kind of...
I'm not used to, like, an unexpected fishy flavor in my snacks.
If I know it's there, then I'll probably like it more.
These ones are super good.
Oh, that smells really shrimpy.
I think these are better than the regular shrimp crackers, because they're, like, softer and bigger.
These crackers are...
Oh, I like the spice, actually.
That just hit me right now.
So these crackers are flat and long.
They have, like, a little bit of spice on them, but the flavor isn't, like, very intense.
I would say it's almost perfect.
It's a little too sweet, though, in my opinion.
There's definitely a theme of added sugar with all these snacks.
Just like in Korea.
I would get this again.
It was good, actually.
Yeah, what do we have left?
We have the big bag of crackers, these freeze-dried snacks, these cakes, and those gummies.
So what do you choose now?
You're here to save the best for last?
The freeze-dried durian is probably the most interesting one, so we'll have that one last.
Is duri?
Oh, man.
I thought it was jackfruit.
Freeze-dried durian.
That's gonna be a fun one.
Okay, let's just go with the gummies.
Benito.
Sounds like a bad buddy's name.
Benito.
Hopefully, these ones are actually sour, because the one we had in China were not sour.
Sour with fruit juice.
It said, like, super mega ultra sour per not sour.
They don't really smell like anything.
That's usually how it is with most gummy candies.
They don't really smell like anything.
Once again, these are extremely sweet.
These are really good, actually.
They have a nice texture.
They're not super chewy.
They're nice and soft.
I find aribo gummies way too chewy.
I don't like them.
They're too chewy, especially the gummy bears.
They, like, hurt my jaw.
Like, dude, I'm not a looks maxer.
I'm not trying to, like, chew on stuff all day.
Okay.
You choose.
Let's do these cakes here.
A custard cake.
These look really good.
I love custard.
Like, it's one of my favorite desserts.

Like-- Oh, there's only two.
One of my favorite, like, desserts of all time is malpho pudding.
So another thing that my mom makes, and she puts this nice liquid custard all over this beautiful cake.
It is so delicious.
I really like custard.
Oh, wow.
Me too.
私も。
What is it smelling?
Just like cake?
Kind of smells like plastic.
Yeah.
うん。
It's good.
Whoa.
It's really soft.
There's an ant on me.
I almost ate this ant.
It's super soft.
Yeah, it's very delicate.
Can't really see, but the inside does have, like, a bit of custard.
You can't see, but...
It was good.
I would definitely buy that again.
I would get that again.
Honestly, I like that more than these pork floss buns.
Yeah, I would get those again.
These gummies, I like the brand, so I would get the brand again.
But I would-- They're not sour enough, eh?
I would get one that are more sour.
I don't know.
I love sour gummies, but I just find it very difficult to find, like, genuinely sour gummies.
But if you guys are Vietnamese and you have recommendations for gummies, chips, or anything, then I can make a part two of this video.

Just let me know all the snacks I should try.

Also, if you're Chinese as well, because I will be going back to China.

I don't know when.
Hopefully soon.
And I will do a part two of my Chinese convenience store video.
So if you're Chinese or Vietnamese, give me stack recommendations.
All right.
よし。
There's only one one.
I might skip this one.
Oh, you can.
Let's split one.
Is it two crackers in there?
Yeah.
うん。
Yeah, let's split it.
This is what it looks like.
We've been low-key addicted to some of these rice crackers, right?
Yeah.
うん。
For the past month or so?
I eat these all the time.
Is this the one you get?
No.
違う。
I get a different bread.
This is a different one.
Oh, it smells really corny.
So it's like, what was the name of it?
Corn milk flavor.
So it definitely smells like corn.
Yeah, the corn smell is extremely strong, but the corn flavor isn't really there.
No, it just smells like corn, but it tastes like a rice cracker.
And these are low-key, like the best dieting food, right?
Rice crackers, because they're so satiating and low-calorie.
So satiating means like it makes you feel full with less food.
Other satiating foods are like potatoes or leafy greens.
They'll make you feel fuller with less food and less calories.
Honestly, any carb.
That's good, but I like the other one you get better.
All right, start of the show.
When was the last time we had durian?
Anything.
It was with mom and me.
Yeah, in Hanoi.
Freeze-fried durian.
I did not like that durian in Hanoi, not too much.
I mean, it's not bad, but it's not good either.
It's not as bad as people say it is, but I am interested in trying this.
Oh, you definitely have to give it a good whiff.
Look at that freeze-fried durian.
I think it's just going to collapse when you bite it.
I think it's going to make everything smell.
Like your hands are just going to...
No, it's going to make this whole area smell.
Here, let me open it up a little bit.
Just give it a crack.
Oh, it's like smelling sauce.
[laughs] Have you guys ever seen those smelling salts reaction videos?
They're probably one of the funniest videos on the internet.
Actually, it's not...
I just don't want to bother everyone with the smell.
It's not that strong.
Durian obviously has that feet smell, right?
And it's not that bad.
It's not that bad.
Let's try it.
Oh, no.
I want to spit it out.
It's going to make my whole mouth taste like this for the whole night.
Oh.
おお。
Okay, the first like two seconds wasn't bad.
I was like, this is not bad.
But once you start rehydrating it, so let's take a step back.
What does freeze-drying even mean?
It means like sucking out all the moisture, no?
Yeah, they use like a freezer and a dehydrator at the same time to remove all the moisture and everything from a lot of different things.
Like right now, it's kind of trending to get freeze-dried candy.
And obviously, you have freeze-dried food here, but...
Give me that, Bev.
It's empty.
Oh.
おお。
Yeah, it just goes up your nostrils.
It has that distinct durian flavor.
And it feels like so concentrated.
Feel like drunk after eating that durian.
You had a big piece too.
I only took a bite of it.
Good thing that was the last thing we ate.
Yeah, that would have ruined my whole night.
So what's the tally?
What happened when we ate yay or nay yet?
Did we eat these ones?
I wouldn't get again.
Nay.
I would get again.
Yay.
The durian?
Nay.
Wait, what are you gonna do with this bag of durian?
I don't wanna throw it out.
Just give it to somebody.
I don't know.
I feel like I should just throw it out or give it to someone.
We'll deal with that later.
Yeah.
うん。
Like I don't know the exact yay or nay count, but put it on screen here.
And some of these are actually really good.
I did like some of them, but that's the thing with trying unique snacks.
You're just not used to it.
Your palate's not used to that, those flavors.
So I'm sure if you grew up with them, I'm sure maybe some of these are your guys' favorite snacks, but not mine.
Anyway, let me know in the comments guys if you liked this video.
