Okay so now we're in the market where they're selling a lot of things.
You think most of this is real or counterfeit?
This is legit 100% genuine items in this market.
Do you think those are real Rolexes?
I think I can get myself a Rolex here.
You think so?
Oh I'm good I got one.
So this is a pretty common market hey this is like what an average open-air market in Asia looks like.
Like a lot of goods, leather goods.
I'd say so.
But most of the products are counterfeit.
They're not actually authentic.
That's why they're just so cheap so don't come here expecting to buy like real like Gucci because if you think that you'll probably get ripped off honestly.
Okay so this is the first store we're in.
We walked through the pedaling street there but it's super super busy and a lot of the stuff I would never buy but I would like to buy some dried fruit.
Let's see what they have.
Like you see along there they have a lot of dried fruit.
Ooh dried kiwi.
Have you ever had dried kiwi?
Never.
Sounds good though.
Yeah I think my favorite type of shopping is shopping for snacks or fruit.
What about you?
What's your favorite type of things to buy?
I think you know the answer.
Food and like expensive electronics.
Yeah I think they have the Dubai chocolate here.
Oh dude they got the gummies on that side.
Hmm.
Ooh plums.
Lemon slices.
Dried guava.
Ginger cube.
Prosperity plum.
Golden fruit.
How much is this though?
It says 25 off but off what?
It's probably on the package.
Oh it's by weight so everyone's a little different.
Oh this one's 15.
15 RM for some dried mango.
Is that a good deal?
10 is like three.
It's five dollars.
But how heavy is it?
Because 200 grams.
Yeah usually paid 100 baht for like 50 grams.
200 grams.
Yeah I feel like this is a good deal.
I'm gonna get this.
Dried mango.
I love love dried mango.
It's so good but I like when they don't put any sugar on it and it looks like this one has no sugar.
This might be a good one.
Low-key dried kiwi though.
I think it'd be too sweet.
This is so weird.
Have you ever seen dried kiwi dude?
It looks so weird.
No way that's the natural color.
I want to try one of these small ones just to see what it tastes like.
What?
何？
Yeah I'm gonna get I'm gonna go check out at the checkout counter.
So once you buy something you have to go to the counter and check out and that's just where you pay.
So I'm gonna go pay and then we'll try these after.
Okay so today we're these after.
Okay so today we're going to be talking about shopping and bargaining basics.
First a question for you guys.
Do you like shopping and what do you like shopping for?
Do you like shopping for food, for clothes, for jewelry, or for experiences?
What do you like shopping for?
Say it out loud.
For example, I like shopping for food.
I really like food.
When I go to a new country I'm always excited to try the new and unique foods.
I also like shopping for snacks and other souvenirs when I'm in a new country.
I try not to buy too many souvenirs.
Usually I just buy a small keychain or a bracelet.
But my favorite things to buy are usually food, snacks,
and packaged goods because I can eat them and I don't have to carry them with me unless I'm going to give them to my family back home.
Then I can't eat them.
These are some very common and important words to know when shopping.
Price, cheap, expensive, discount, deal, cash, card, size, color, try on, fit, and receipt.
Those are some important words you should try to remember.
Now when you go up to someone and you want to buy something it's important to first ask for the price.
There are five steps we'll go through but the first step is to ask for the price.
A few ways to ask that are how much is this?
How much for this one?
Or simply what's the price?
What I tend to say most often is how much does this cost?
In a previous video we learned how to speak politely.
So if you wanted to speak politely while asking for the price you can say "excuse me, how much does this cost?
" Thank you.
The second step is to react politely.
In some places and stores it is normal to bargain.
However, in other stores such as Uniqlo, H&M, and other big fashion retailers you don't negotiate or bargain for the price.
You simply pay the price on the tag.
However, if you're shopping in a flea market or just a regular market it is sometimes normal to bargain.
Bargain just means to ask for a lower price.
So some polite ways to react to the price if you are bargaining is that's a bit expensive.
That's too expensive for me.
And finally, do you have a discount?
The third step is to give them an offer.
For example, can you do 30?
How about 25?
Would you take 20?
I find myself most often saying would you take and then the price.
Would you take 100?
Would you take 50?
Step four is to meet in the middle and negotiate a price you are both happy with.
For example, sentences you can use are what's your best price?
Can you do a little better?
And the fifth and final step is to close or exit politely.
Some example sentences you can use are okay, I'll take it or deal.
And if you don't want to buy it you can say no worries, thank you, maybe later.
Okay guys, now let's have real speaking practice.
There will be three dialogues.
For the first one I will ask and Leon will answer.
For the second one I will ask you and you will read the yellow caption on the bottom of the screen.
That is your dialogue.
So let's start.
That was the first dialogue and now I want you to read the yellow caption on the bottom.
That is your dialogue.
Are you guys ready?
Let's go.
Now time for the third scenario.
You guys go ahead and read the yellow.
Let me know if you guys liked that shadowing practice.
If you liked it, I'll include more of them in my future videos for a longer length of time.
Also, let me know if you want videos that are exactly like that, where I ask you a question and then you have a dialogue you need to read.
So now let's talk about some common mistakes.
The first one is how much versus how many.
1つ目は how much と how many の違いです。
For price, price is how much.
How many is for counting.
So when you go to ask the price for something, you would say how much is that jacket?
だから何かの値段を聞くときは、how much is that jacket?
You would not say how many is that jacket.
how many is that jacket
That does not make sense.
You need to say how much is that jacket or that item that you want to buy.
how much is that jacket、または買いたいその商品と言わなければなりません。
The second most common mistake is give me a discount.
This sentence is technically correct.
However, it comes off a bit rude, kind of like you are demanding a discount.
And this will most likely make the person selling you the item not want to give you a discount since you sound rude.
So don't say give me a discount.
Give me, give me.
Give me、give me。
Don't say that.
Instead say this.
Do you have any discounts?
Do you have any discounts? です。
Or if I buy multiple items, can I have a discount?
または if I buy multiple items, can I have a discount? です。
Give me is very demanding and it sounds like you are entitled.
The next is too expensive and so expensive.
次は too expensive と so expensive です。
Too expensive means more than you want to pay.
Too expensive
That jacket is too expensive.
That jacket is too expensive. です。
It's more than I want to pay.
So expensive means it's just very expensive.
So expensive
That jacket is so expensive.
That jacket is so expensive. です。
So it doesn't mean you don't want to buy it.
It just means it's very expensive.
That jacket is so expensive but I really wanted it so I bought it.
That jacket is so expensive but I really wanted it so I bought it. です。
If you said that jacket is too expensive, it's kind of not worth it for you to buy that jacket.
That jacket is too expensive
Now let's for you to buy that jacket.
Now let's practice the pronunciation of some difficult words.
The first word is discount.
Discount.
Discount。
Discount.
Discount。
Discount.
Discount。
The second word is expensive.

The third word is bargain.
Bargain.
Bargain.

And the final word is receipt.
Receipt.
Receipt.

One final question for you guys.
Do you enjoy shopping?
Do you enjoy shopping?
Me personally, like I said in the beginning of the video, I love shopping for food
and different snacks and also I like going out and buying food when I'm in a new country just to try the food.
However, I really, really, really, really, really, really do not like even hate shopping for clothes and things like that.
I find it boring.
I like to just have clothes and not need to go and actually find it.
So even though I need clothes sometimes and I'm thinking okay I'm gonna go shopping, I go and 10 minutes later I'm done.
I'm done.
I don't want to be shopping anymore.
So I don't like shopping for clothes or anything else besides food because I personally don't find it very interesting.
What about you guys?
Do you enjoy shopping?
And what do you enjoy shopping for?
I have a lot of friends that love going to Walmart or Target
and they love to just walk around and buy little random things and in my head I'm like that feels like a waste of time to me.
I could be doing so many things instead of just walking around a store.
To me, waste of time and money but if you enjoy it you can do whatever you want.
You're not hurting anyone so it's okay but that's how I feel about it.
I don't enjoy shopping unless it's for food.
Now to summarize everything we've learned let's have a small quiz.
The first question is how can you ask for the price of something?
There are many ways but one of my favorite is, how much is this or how much does this cost?
いろいろな言い方がありますが、私のお気に入りの一つは、how much is this、または how much does this cost? です。
Second question how can you ask for a discount?
Politely.
I do not recommend saying give me a discount.
give me a discount
It sounds rude.
You can say are there any discounts?
are there any discounts?
Can I have a discount?
Can I have a discount?
Or do you have a discount?
または do you have a discount?
Last question how can you exit politely after not wanting to buy something?
You can say no worries thank you maybe later.
no worries thank you maybe later
if you like this type of video with a more structured lesson let me know in the comments.
I'll see you guys next video.
Bye-bye.
In this lesson I want you to shadow real or counterfeit.
This is a pretty common market hey?
Just because if you think that you probably get ripped off.
I would like to buy some dried fruit.
Let's see what they have.
Food.
Oh it's by weight so everyone's a little different.
No way that's the natural color.
I want to try shopping for snacks and I'll ask for the price.
There are and other big fashion retailers you don't.
