Translation

I think they were both genuinely fascinated with each other, almost like we, you're like me.
It kind of hit me that neither of them had interacted with another donkey in over a decade.
Jack would literally follow Rooster everywhere and just really wanted to be his friend.
Jack had a tough background.
He was living in solitude on a really large property that hosts events, so emotionally he was incredibly neglected.
He'd kind of been forgotten.
On top of that, Jack had been repeatedly physically abused by a hoof trimmer.
We were warned that he bites and kicks, but he just walked right into the trailer.
Good job.
There was an awareness about him; like he knew that this was going to be a turning point for him.
In those first days and weeks, he was really eager to explore.
He was also understandably cautious because of the physical abuse he'd experienced.
He had lost of trust in humans.
Roo actually came from a pretty similar situation, alone for close to a decade.
He's a little bit more reserved with other animals, whereas Jack was so enthusiastic about Rooster.
He wanted to be besties right away.
Watching them bond was definitely really special.
As the weeks have gone by, their bond is deepening.
They love to play together a lot.
One day, I caught them noodling along the fence line, which melted my heart.
After a decade alone, having nobody to communicate with, I think having another friend his own size has given Jack a real sense of peace and security.
He genuinely seems happy to be here, and I think knows he's safe and knows he's loved.
He wasn't as
agile as he was before, or active as he was before,
and we could just tell that
he was feeling depressed and lonely.
Sammy and Peedy were brothers and had lived together their entire lives, and they were actually rescued from a cruelty case back in the day.
There were definitely signs after Sammy's
brother Peedy passed away that indicated to us that Sammy was feeling really lonely,
and we ended up meeting with a donkey named Molly who needed to be rehomed.
Beanie, so sweet.
When we met with Molly, it was instantaneous that we knew that her temperament would be likely a great match for Sammy.
We did not put the donkeys together right away, so we had Molly and Sammy in separate pastures,
and it was the absolute sweetest thing to witness because every single morning, Sammy would come out of the barn and make his way over to the fence to greet Molly,
and they spent almost all day either nuzzling through the fence or walking back and forth with each other.
So much so that there was a dirt path on either side of the fence line from how much Sammy and Molly were spending time with each other.
Aww, yeah.
Nowadays, Sammy and Molly pretty much do everything together.
Molly is always one or two steps behind Sammy, always following him around.
Sammy taught me a lot about processing grief, and something that's just as important for them as it is for us is the need for companionship.
