Hi, Melanie.
I'm Cat, and this is my cat Cheddar.
My other cat Junior is currently hiding inside.
Welcome to our Scandinavian home with the Catio custom built just for them.
Let's take a tour.
I'm Melanie Demi, and welcome to Dodo Digs, where I show you that pet parents can have it all: beautiful homes, happy pets, and zero compromise on style.
What do you say, Cheddar?
Should we tour your house?
Let's go.
Handsome boy.
Hello.
Welcome to my home.
Thank you.
This is my baby Cheddar.
Hi, buddy.
Oh my goodness, hi Cheddar.
This is my first cat episode.
Oh my God, I'm honored to have you.
I hear you have two cats.
Two cats.
One is unfortunately hiding in the closet.
Okay, well maybe we'll like espy scope out the house.
What would you say is your like design style?
I want a house to feel like a house that's lived in, but still look pretty.
I want it to be cozy.
If I find something that brings me any joy, I can find a way to make it work in my house.
I feel like I'm seeing a couple of like cat touches here and there.
I've got my cat, cute orange cat.
Yeah, my little cat candle.
This was from a flea market.
It's an oil painting.
Of course, there's a little cat drinking water in that.
I also have some art in the office.
So I love someone made me all of these, but this one specifically for Cheddar and Junior.
And I also still have in Baltimore, and it kind of reminds me of the Baltimore rat.
Also, your little cat turtle.
I know.
I mean, after saying I don't have a lot of cats, now we're going around and I'm like, okay, maybe I do.
What brings the cats joy?
Like, what do they spend a lot of time in here?
Oh, for sure.
Yeah.
はい。
I mean, starting with like they love a cozy blanket.
This bench is perfect for them because there's windows on both sides, and a lot of times they'll just be perched, like one here, one here.
Yeah.
Is that a ocean view that I see over there?
It's a sea ocean view, but I will take what I can get.
I know that cats can have a tendency to maybe scratch.
Like, how do you pick furniture?
Is that something that you considered when you were getting all of your pieces?
Do you want to get something that is not going to get ruined, but also like you know, making it accommodating to cats, also in your style?
So it's definitely difficult.
But with this couch, I found a performance fabric.
Even when they try, they can and they have only scratching posts.
So like they're fine.
But they can go to other places.
But like, yeah, they haven't been able to pull any threads or anything.
It really seems like they think they own every single piece of furniture in the house.
In a way, but it's still so beautiful.
How do you manage, like, having a beautiful space?
One thing that's become part of my everyday allergen management routine is using Clorox Pure Allergen Neutralizer Fabric and Carpet Spray.
Cheddar and Junior pretty much clean every soft surface in the house, and since I deal with allergies myself, it's something that I use every day.
It helps neutralize indoor allergens like pet dander on soft surfaces, so I can enjoy my time with my cats while also feeling confident that our home is always ready for family and friends.
I let it just become part of your routine, exactly.
And knowing Clorox Pure is safe to use in pet areas when used as directed makes it an easy choice for a home.
Say.
He's like welcome to my kitchen.
Everywhere that we are.
First of all, the lighting in here is amazing.
So much.
I love the windows.
I see obviously where you eat.
Yeah.
Um, I noticed where they eat.
Yeah, we've got quite the setup here.
This is Cheddar's area.
Junior has one in the other room because if they're not separated, Cheddar will eat off his food.
But these are great for just scheduling out their meals because you can do it on apps for both of them.
Which is so cool.
Yeah.
What do you recommend that cat owners have in their kitchen for their cats?
My cats personally prefer moving water over still water.
I love having water fountains for them.
I just find that they drink a lot more water when it's moving.
Interesting.
I know it's it's a cat thing.
Do they ever play with toys?
They do.
They have a little toy cabinet right here where I can pull this out.
Basically, like a surplus of anything that you ever need.
Lots of wands.
Junior loves like these type of wands, like that's a really big deal for him.
And Cheddar kind of prefers like these cuddly ones.
Just rubs his head on it.
How long have you had him?
I've had him for six years.
He was a rescue baby that was found on the side of the road in West Virginia, actually.
How did it go when you got Junior?
Like, how long was he an only child, and then like how was that introduction?
I also got Junior as a kitten.
He was also a rescue.
I went to a house that he was living in, and he was with about 15 dogs and like 20 cats.
Like it was everywhere.
So I think he's he's happy to be in a little bit more relaxed environment.
Yeah.
And I love that like the space that you created is perfect for him to just relax and kind of.
Yeah.
Breathe.
Since Cheddar runs the house, you're seeing now.
I didn't want him to feel threatened in any way.
You know, he was happy to happy to have a little guy here with them for sure.
He's so much more playful, and that's really why I ended up getting another cat because I could tell that he was kind of bored.
And they they really do entertain each other, which is nice.
They're a lot more active.
Had to put money right now.
Where do you think Junior is?
He's got a couple spots, but most likely he ran upstairs and went directly to my bedroom.
Okay, do you think he'll mind if we come see if we can find him?
No, not at all.
Maybe a little, but like, let's go.
Let's see.
We're trying to see if we can get Junior to come out.
Oh, Cheddar's like, can you give me the treats?
Cheddar's taking all the food.
Hi.
Welcome.
Oh, he's all he's like.
Very good job.
Can you say hello?
I know it's a lot of people, but they're very nice.
No, sir.
Very good job.
I miss you.
This is very brave for him.
Like truly, he would not normally do this even for food.
So you're being so brave.
Very good.
Very good.
Okay.
よし。
Here's say.
So that's Junior.
Junior, you're so handsome.
Hi, Junior.
We love you.
We love you.
Little peek around the corner to see if I'm still here.
That might be all we get.
And honestly, I got eyes on him.
He's so handsome.
And that's okay.
He can have his space.
Thank you for saying hello.
Thank you for saying hi.
Welcome to the backyard.
Oh my god, it's so beautiful.
You come right this way.
I did something really quaint and simple for the cat.
You did a very traditional thing.
Yes.
Of course.
So this is my patio.
Well, I guess it's not my patio.
It's their patio.
Cat, this is amazing.
You're so much.
I wanted this house because it had the backyard space for it, and I went a little bit overboard, and I can be the first person to admit that.
But I don't regret anything.
No, this is not overboard.
This is perfection.
Can we go in there?
Yeah.
There's a door right here.
I am like actually in awe.
This is the coolest thing I've ever seen.
Thank you.
Cheddar, is this your space?
And he he really likes the sun spots, so I've been debating actually putting a skylight in here to give them a little bit more sun.
Where did you get the idea to do this?
So in my last apartment, which was very close to here, I had a little patio situation, and he really, really liked coming out there with me.
But I just learned how much he loved to be outside, and I wanted him to have that experience as much as he wanted.
So I see like cats outside in their little catios, and I thought that's such a cool idea.
I'd never really thought of that.
I'd seen some online, so I just decided that that's exactly what I need to do.
Did you make this yourself?
No, I wish.
I thought like when I moved in, I was like, this is easy work.
I can just do this myself.
And then I quickly realized that that's not my profession.
And I found this wonderful guy named Brett, and he got this going in up in two days, and it, yeah, very quick.
Yeah.
And he was the one who told me the tunnel where they can come in and out on their own.
I originally was just gonna do it standalone, and then be able to bring them out here.
But then he was like, trust me, all of the ones he's built, the cats will be like scratching to go outside, so it's nice for them to have the option to go in and out.
Can he come out here anytime?
I lock it if I leave the house around nine.
How much time would you say that you guys spend out here?
They spend more time out here than me.
Yeah, we have like some bird feeders, so that they can just be entertained while they're out here, and they can also just lounge like this, just loaf.
But if they're in playful mood, you know, we have stairs for them to go high and perch up there, which they really like.
And then I had some of these laying around my yard, Lord knows why.
And I saw that cats really love like rubbing on cement.
Oh.
Yeah, it's a thing.
So I decided to move them in here.
And a lot of times when I come out here, they will be lounging and sitting on me, which is funny.
It was just the mulch when they built it, but out of this turf.
And then they again really like this cement tile for whatever reason, so I did a strip of those.
The patio was my first thing I was gonna do in this yard, and then I built the outside area later for me, so that right I have spaces well right.
Um, but yeah, I'm just as content out there or in here.
Yeah.
There's a couch in here.
I've had friends come over and if you know the cats are out here and we all hang out together, we can sit in here and I'm behind the scratching post.
So let me.
I was gonna comment on this way.
I just I see a claw.
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, they climb this.
Oh, I see another one.
And then they're chasing each other, and they can like run across this whole bridge here and climb this and jump.
Would you say that, like having this space out here, changed their lives?
Like, have have their habits changed?
I think they're overall just like more stimulated and happier.
It's truly a dream come true.
Like, I'm so glad that I'm able to do this for them.
It's a dream come true for me and for them because I just want I like will truly do anything for my cats if I am the day.
All right, cat.
What does it mean for you to have it all as a pet parent?
Oh gosh, well I don't know if I have it all, but I do feel very lucky to be able to give my cats an enjoyable life, and that they just bring me so much joy that truly, like anything I can do to return the favor, yeah, I I want to do.
You know, I feel like you've done such a good job of creating a space that's not only beautiful and meaningful for you, but also incorporating your cats into it.
And I think that is just so special to be able to do that for them.
Like, you have this stunning outdoor patio that you created.
Well, thank you.
You have so many places in there in the house that are like specifically for them.
You've thought about them in everything that you do, like putting things by the windows and like having their scratchers and their toys.
I just thank you for coming, and I'm so glad you got to meet Cheddar and Junior.
And Junior, he came out.
He came out.
He made his star guest appearance.
He like did good today.
Just being shy.
I I think it's so obvious that they are both so happy and so loved, and I I'm just grateful that I got to see it.
Thank you.
That's nice.
