Today we're just gonna focus on one word, just because it's a word which has many uses.
今日は一つの単語だけに注目します、その単語にはたくさんの使い方があるからです。

Craig is planning a wedding party.

Marco has done the interior design, but Craig wants to make a few changes.

So first, Craig says, "I just adore the place." Here, just is used to emphasize the verb adore.

It makes it stronger.

Next, Craig says, "It's just as wonderful as you said it would be." Here, just means equally or the same.

Craig says, "I was just thinking." Here, just means very recently.

And then Marco says, "I was thinking just the same thing." Marco was thinking exactly the same thing.

Next, Craig says, "It's just a bit too dark." Just means slightly or a little, and Craig wants to soften what he says.

Craig sees that Marco is accepting all of these changes, so he gets a bit more authoritative and he says, "

Just get rid of the red roses." It took Marco days to find those, and here "just" is used to emphasise the instruction.

"Just here" means only he only wants purple poppies.

And then the last draw is when he says the paintings are just too modern.

"Just here" emphasises the negative criticism and makes everything worse.

And then, to add insult to injury, he says they might have just enough money, so Marco might not be able to buy the paintings.

No wonder he walked off, and I would have walked off sooner.

So in this short conversation, we use "just" in five ways: to emphasise what he was saying, to show that things are equal

or the same, to show that something happened very recently, to show that something is slightly over or under, and finally to show that you only want one thing.
