Grab your wired earpods and brand new iPhone Duo for an experience of a lifetime, or maybe just an experience you had a lifetime ago.
Check out this app that can turn your three thousand five hundred dollar foldable iPhone into a memory of what once was.
Deckman, because nothing says the future like pretending it's nineteen eighty four.
No one even knows that I have an iPhone Duo in my pocket.
It's so wild going from folded to open when you're recording, because this little screen—it's so teeny tiny—and then you're like,
full screen—you've got it all.
I've only had the Duo for twenty-four hours, and the thing that I've loved so much about it so far is just the portability.
Having something this small, and I'm being able to respond to texts, play Pokemon Go right on my front screen, and then when I actually have things to do, like editing or going through photos, I can open it up and I have a much more expansive screen.
I just cannot wait to see how.
My workflow evolves with the Duo.
Duo
So the camera on the Duo are not as high end as the camera system on the iPhone 18 Pros, but there is a tradeoff.
Obviously, if you want to have this small and compact and portable device that you can literally fold and put in your pockets, it unfolds.
If you want to have this massive, glorious display, and a few of those tradeoffs are in the camera system.
Mostly when it comes to the telephoto, so you're only getting a 0.5, a 1, and a 2x.
No telephoto.
Having that 8x on the 18 Pro Max is so awesome when you're actually trying to shoot content.
So even though I've only had this for 24 hours, time will tell.
Will I miss my telephoto?
You can also add these Pro video settings, which lets you have more flexibility in your photos and your video.
It's been taking me a while to actually figure out how to hold the phone to take photos where my hand isn't in front of the lens.
And I think for people who have never used a foldable device, I am more excited to see what their response is because I've been using foldables since Samsung came out with them many years ago.
So for someone who is getting this for the first time.
It's gonna probably feel like to them that they are traveling to another planet.
Smart take when everyone's ready.
Smart take can automatically capture photos.
You're out of a job, Nathan.
Goodbye.
Bye.
So all the smart take photos turned out really well.
I think that's gonna be really fun for people who want to kind of use this as a tripod.
You have group photos.
We talked about the two rear cameras.
There's actually four total cameras on this phone.
The camera that's on the front screen actually does record 4K, so you can record 4K 24, 30, and 60.
Now on the inside, you have an under-display camera, and this is the first one that Apple has ever made.
This one is 1080p, and this one is not really meant to be used for filming content.
I mean, yes, you can, but this is mostly a FaceTime camera.
And what's nice is if you do any FaceTime calls, you can set your Duo down, kind of like a little laptop, and you can use that FaceTime camera to do your calls.
Now this front display actually is a center stage camera.
So if you want to do your FaceTime calls this way, you can be moving and grooving, and it will keep you in the frame.
So four different cameras, each kind of with its own unique use.
The more you'll figure out the different ways to utilize them.
So we're now two days in with the Duo, and this is the first time that I'm really getting a chance to film and shoot some content with it.
And at first, I started filming with it closed, and then I was like, Hold on a second!
We have this massive, beautiful display.
Let's test it out.
Now, the first thing that I noticed is I started filming like this, but then I quickly realized that my hand is covering the lenses.
So we do a nice little flip.
Film with the cameras up top.
The screen rotates, and now I'm filming horizontally.
Now, if I go to flip vertically, the screen also rotates, and now we're filming vertical.
All right, let's get some content so I can eat this food.
Okay, this looks so good.
This is now a little tripod for me.
Wow, that's really good.
What's this place called?
Your mom?
No, mom, please.
Is it the time for recording this?
Pokemon Go isn't currently updated yet for the Duo.
This is still pre-release software.
I'm sure it'll be updated by the time the Duo comes out for everyone.
But I can't wait.
Why did Jenna?
She just requested two dollars because I told her I was filming.
I haven't set up my Apple Cash, on the Duo yet?
Let's pay.
There's no Face ID.
Face ID
I just went to use Face ID and there's no Face ID.
She said Duo dollars.
Oh my God, she's so funny.
I was asking you guys all these questions about like what do you want to know about the Duo, and a lot of them were asking will it fit in my pocket.
I don't know if I have the same pocket size as you, but I always wear yoga pants, and this does in fact fit in my pocket, not only folded but also unfolded, which I highly doubt I'll actually ever
unfold this and put it in my pocket.
I mean, look at this.
I think it looks really great.
I mean, you can't even tell.
It's not obvious at all.
It's been almost a week with the Duo, and I've been starting to adapt the ways that I create content.
I have decided that I'm basically just going to be using these cameras as much as possible when I'm filming content, so to take photos but still make it like a selfie because you can use the dual view screen.
So we go in.
We'll turn on the dual view, so you'll be able to see the outer display.
Can you see yourself?
Yes, you absolutely can.
Okay, so I'm going to flip this around.
You have to look at this lens.
Do not look at yourself.
So now I'll just hit this little button right here to take my photo.
I don't have to worry about pressing anything else on the screen.
Hold it out.
Oh yeah, she's ready for the selfies.
The other thing you can do is also set a timer.
So I'm going to set a timer here for maybe like a couple of seconds.
So you can press it.
And the good thing about taking the timer photos is it'll take a burst of photos so you can choose from your favorite.
This is Kids Q.
It's in the same setting where you turn on and off the front display, but this will show an animation that supposedly will help get kids' attention when taking photos.
Using an Apple Pencil won't be available at launch, but the USB-C version will be compatible with the Duo on the front and inside screen.
This will be the first time that an Apple Pencil works with an iPhone, and I cannot wait to try this out.
Split screen has been really fun, and I've been using it a lot.
Most of the time, I will just have my text messages open, and I'm chatting, and I'm doing something else on the other side.
I've also loved it for having my emails up on one side, and then I'm making changes to either a video or a photo, or if I'm posting some of my social media posts for brands, there's always like a little brief that gives you all of the information, and I have to copy and paste it.
This time, I can just stay on one screen, copy and paste over to Instagram, and everything is seamless.
The other thing that I've loved it for is Pokemon Go.
I've been doing a bunch of remote raids, so I have a remote raid app that I keep on one side, and then I'll open up Pokemon Go on the other, and this allows me to yell at people when they don't invite me to the raid.
So it's great because I can raid, keep the chat open, and hopefully catch my Pokemon at the end.
My favorite use case that I've been loving is being able to edit on Luma Fusion, but in a full screen capacity.
This entire editing suite just shows up.
You can also edit this way or this way, depending on if you want to have your video full screen or if you want to be able to have access to all of your content.
The Duo as a content viewing machine is just that—it is a machine.
So right now, I'm testing out cloud gaming on Xbox.
This is incredible because you basically just can go to xbox.com/play, not sponsored, not an ad.
Add it as a home screen icon, and you can play basically any game that is in your Game Pass library.
You can play it all on the cloud as long as you have a subscription.
And the other thing too is if you want to play games and connect a controller—Xbox, Nintendo, PlayStation, whatever controller you wish—you can connect this to your phone and you can play games in Apple Arcade.
But I really wanted to see if I could play Forza on the iPhone Duo.
And spoiler alert—you can.
I mean, the graphics look amazing.
I'm not a great driver.
The cherry blossoms are blossoming.
I'm playing this.
Literally feels like I'm just I'm playing on a console or a small handheld gaming device.
Passing them up, passing them up.
Let them know.
Let them know.
Reading books is something that a lot of people are going to be doing on this, and I think reading on a Mac.
display is so much easier on your eyes.
So most of the books that I listen to are either on Spotify or on Audible.
But I want to show you what it looks like to read a book on here.
So I happen to have one, which is my book from 2015.
Needs an update.
When you're flipping through the pages, it really feels—well, it doesn't actually feel like paper, but like it's giving you that feeling of turning a page with the little animation.
And you can see all of my colored photos that I have in here.
So that's what it's like to read on the iPhone Duo.
Just some parting thoughts.
Now that I've been using this phone consistently, integrating it into my life as pretty much my main device, the thing that I found myself doing is I'm actually responding a lot more to texts on the front screen.
When I open it up, I'm usually doing two things at the same time.
I'm usually responding to a text on one side, doing another activity on the other side.
But the cool thing that you can do when you are using the keyboard from the inside is you can use a split screen.
So if you don't want to have this full display keyboard, you can go to split, and then this brings it closer to your thumbs, which makes it so much easier to type.
What I also found myself doing, laying my duo down and just typing like this.
This only really works though when I have a case on it because if not, like it's it's a little wobbly.
Another accessibility feature on the keyboard when you're typing on the front is you can move the keyboard to the left or to the right
by pressing and holding on the little emoji or world key depending upon what you have it set as, and this will make it so much easier for you if you're using just one hand,
so you don't have to reach all the way over to the other side.
This is also good if you're a left-handed phone user, which I am actually left-handed, but I do pretty much hold my phone most of the time with my right hand.
But this will allow you to type easier with one hand, and you can choose which hand that is.
Most of the time when I'm doing these types of reviews, it's hard to really test the battery life because we are filming so much with it.
This phone is basically just on 24/7, so I can't really say how good the battery life will be in a daily scenario.
But for us filming, I didn't feel like I was panicked to find a charger.
I felt like pretty much every time I looked at it, we had a pretty full charge.
So I'll report back when I start using this on the daily, like a normal human, not like somebody who's shooting a review video.
Thank you, everyone, so much for watching.
I hope you guys enjoyed this video.
There's so much more that I want to test, but I do have a ton of social content.
So if you want to follow me on all of the other social platforms at I Justine, you can go check out some of my shorts as well.
And with that, I will see you in the next video.
Bye.
