She'd actually just been poisoned.
Was the information we were given from the community?
Nile and his team rushed to help this dog who had been poisoned, and the first 24 hours were about doing everything that they could to keep her alive.
Nobody knows who the villain of the story is here, but let's just say we knew that she was in pretty bad shape.
It was really, really, really, really nice.
On top of being poisoned, she had broken a rib and was having trouble standing on her own.
But this is why Nile is so wonderfully perfect for the job.
He doesn't look at the negatives and hold on to any glimmer of hope.
Trying to get espresso martini to walk again.
Come on, let's see, let's see.
We need to get your walking today, Martini.
And for espresso, it was that very faint but real tail wag.
From there, the recovery process started.
It was endless hours by her side, cheering on and celebrating every tiny milestone.
Not easy, darling, isn't it?
It's not easy.
Put your sitting up.
座って。
There's your food, darling.
There's your food.
Martini, sitting up.
Would you try and come up a little bit more?
I mean, the vets here really did so much.
They were giving her physiotherapy, they were giving her electrotherapy.
If you remember, little espresso martini, she's come in three days ago.
She's still can walk, but she's made some massive improvements.
I got her right here with a bit of food today, and what we're doing is trying to strengthen her neck a little.
And slowly, that tiny progress started to amount to a lot.
Then her back leg started working again, and she would even try do tests, trying by trying to stand on all four.
Three weeks of relentless exercise, patience, and cheering her on, espresso stood up.
And took four tiny steps all by herself.
Her recovery is not over, but it's clear that this is just the beginning, and it will only be good things from here on out.
