Hello, I'm Charlie, and this is my little girl, Summer Rose.
こんにちは、僕はチャーリー、そしてこちらは僕の小さな娘、サマー・ローズです。

こんにちは。
I love getting cosy and reading Summer Rose a story before bed.
寝る前にサマー・ローズとくっついてお話を読むのが大好きなんだ。
And tonight, I'm very excited to be reading a CBeebies Bedtime Story for you.
そして今夜は、みんなのためにCBeebiesのおやすみお話を読めることに、とってもワクワクしているよ。
I'm also a little bit nervous because I'm quite shy.
ちょっと緊張もしているんだ、僕はかなり恥ずかしがり屋だから。
Now, it might seem a little strange that I'm shy because my job is all about talking to lots of people.
僕の仕事はたくさんの人と話すことだから、恥ずかしがり屋だなんて少し変に思えるかもしれないね。
I mean, I work on the radio where I play music, chat to guests and have fun with everyone who's listening.
ラジオで働いていて、音楽をかけたり、ゲストとおしゃべりしたり、聴いてくれているみんなと楽しんだりしているんだ。
But I can find it really hard to meet new people, and I don't always like having attention on me.
でも、新しい人に会うのは本当に大変に感じるし、注目されるのもあまり好きじゃないんだ。
It can make my cheeks go bright red.
ほっぺが真っ赤になっちゃうんだ。
I often talk to Summer Rose about being brave and trying new things, so I thought it was time that I tried it too.
勇気を出して新しいことに挑戦しようって、サマー・ローズによく話すから、僕もやってみようと思ったんだ。
Tonight's CBeebies Bedtime Story is all about a little boy who feels shy too.
今夜のCBeebiesのおやすみお話は、恥ずかしがり屋の男の子のお話だよ。
His name is Sammy, and he's so shy that he turns pink.
名前はサミー、とっても恥ずかしがり屋で、ピンクになっちゃうんだ。
It's called Sammy Feels Shy, and it's written and illustrated by Tom Percival.
タイトルは『サミーははずかしい』、作・絵はトム・パーシヴァルです。
Sammy loved having fun.
サミーは楽しいことが大好きでした。
He loved running and jumping and playing games.
走ったり、跳んだり、ゲームで遊んだりするのが大好きでした。
Everything felt easy when he was at home with Dad.
お父さんとおうちにいるときは、何もかもが簡単でした。
But at school, there were just so many people.
でも学校には、人がたくさんいすぎました。
One day, Miss Sims asked Sammy a question.
ある日、シムズ先生がサミーに質問をしました。
Everybody looked at him, but Sammy couldn't seem to talk.
みんなが彼を見ましたが、サミーはどうしても話せませんでした。
"Don't be shy," someone said.
「恥ずかしがらないで」と誰かが言いました。
Sammy's cheeks glowed pink, and that was the start of it.
サミーのほっぺはピンクに輝き、それが始まりでした。
Sammy didn't like to be pushy, so he always waited his turn.
サミーはでしゃばるのが嫌だったので、いつも順番を待っていました。
Although not everyone did the same.
でも、みんながそうするわけではありませんでした。
"It's your turn now," said the ice cream man.
「さあ、君の番だよ」とアイスクリーム屋さんが言いました。
"No need to be shy.
「恥ずかしがらなくていいよ。
" Everybody looked at Sammy, and he turned even pinker.
」みんながサミーを見て、彼はさらにピンクになりました。
At his cousin's birthday party, Sammy said, "Happy birthday!
いとこの誕生日パーティーで、サミーは「お誕生日おめでとう！
" by mistake, and nearly all of him turned pink.
」と間違えて言ってしまい、体のほとんどがピンクになりそうでした。
Everywhere he went, something would go wrong.
行く先々で、何かがうまくいきませんでした。
Ouch.

Sammy began to feel like everyone was staring at him, and people kept saying the same thing.

"He's so shy.
「彼はとっても恥ずかしがり屋だ。
" It wasn't long before he had turned a bright, vivid pink all over.

Sammy felt terrible.
サミーはひどく落ち込みました。
He didn't want to see anyone or do anything.
誰にも会いたくないし、何もしたくありませんでした。
"Hmm," said Dad.
「うーん」とお父さんが言いました。
"I think I've got an idea.
「いい考えがあるぞ。
" That evening, Dad took Sammy to the fair.
「その夜、お父さんはサミーをお祭りに連れて行きました。」
There were bright flashing lights, big rides and a tall, twisting Helter Skelter.
そこには明るく点滅するライトや大きな乗り物、そして高くねじれたヘルタースケルターがありました。
Sammy felt a flicker of excitement.
サミーはワクワクする気持ちを感じました。
It looked like so much fun.
とても楽しそうに見えました。
He really wanted to go on the Helter Skelter.
彼は本当にヘルタースケルターに乗りたいと思いました。
Would you like to go on the Helter Skelter?
ヘルタースケルターに乗りたい？
Yeah.
うん。
But what if everyone stared at him?
でもみんなが彼をじろじろ見たらどうしよう？
What if he turned even pinker?
もっとピンクになったらどうしよう？
It was all too much.
それはすべて耐えきれないほどでした。
He ran away to hide.
彼は隠れるために逃げ出しました。
But someone else was also hiding behind the trees.
しかし、木の後ろには他にも隠れている人がいました。
It was a girl from his class, Lily.
それは同じクラスの女の子、リリーでした。
"Are you scared of the rides too?
「あなたも乗り物が怖いの？
" she asked.
」と彼女は尋ねました。
"No," said Sammy.
「ううん」とサミーは言いました。
"But there are so many people, and I'm shy.
「でも人がたくさんいて、僕は恥ずかしがり屋なんだ。
Everyone always says so.
みんながいつもそう言うんだ。」
" Lily smiled.
「リリーは微笑みました。
"You don't seem shy to me.

" Sammy felt his pinkness fade a little.
」サミーは自分のピンク色が少し薄れていくのを感じました。
He didn't feel shy with Lily.
彼はリリーとは恥ずかしいと感じませんでした。
Soon they had come up with a plan to help each other.
まもなく二人はお互いを助けるための計画を思いつきました。
First, they'd get candy floss.
まず、わたあめを買うこと。
You like candy floss, don't you?
わたあめ好きでしょう？
Then they'd go on the spinning teacups.
それから回転するティーカップに乗ること。
And finally, they'd slide down the Helter Skelter together.
そして最後に、一緒にヘルタースケルターを滑り降りること。
As they walked through the fair, the lights flashed so many colours that Sammy could have been bright pink, bright yellow or bright green.
二人がお祭りの中を歩いていると、ライトがたくさんの色に点滅したので、サミーは真っピンクにも、真っ黄色にも、真っ緑にもなれたでしょう。
He felt a bit better, and the pinkness faded even more.

Then they met a big group of children from school.

Butterflies danced in Sammy's tummy.
サミーのお腹の中で蝶が舞いました。
Everyone was looking at them.

He wanted to run away.
彼は逃げ出したくなりました。
Then Lily put her hand on his shoulder, and Sammy remembered that he was here to have fun.
そのときリリーが彼の肩に手を置き、サミーは楽しむためにここに来たことを思い出しました。
So he took a deep breath, then said, "Who wants to go on the Helter Skelter?
そこで彼は深呼吸をして、それから言いました、「ヘルタースケルターに乗りたい人は？
" And everyone did.

Sammy and Lily climbed the steps together.
サミーとリリーは一緒に階段を上りました。
They sat at the top together.

Lily felt nervous, but Sammy squeezed her hand.

And then they slid down together, laughing the whole way.

By the time they got to the bottom, Sammy wasn't pink at all.

After that, things were much better.

Of course, Sammy still sometimes felt funny in big groups, but he decided it would never stop him from doing what he enjoyed.

Now, the only time that Sammy's cheeks turn pink is when he's running around having fun.

Sammy showed us how to be brave even when he didn't feel it.

He was there for his friend Lily, and Lily was there for Sammy when they both needed it.

Sometimes a squeeze of the hand lets your friend know you are there for them.

Yeah.

Right, it's getting late and it's almost time for bed.
