Last month, a tax accountant's office in Shinjuku, Tokyo received this email
It said something like a vulnerability had been found, and that if left as is, damage would occur in the event of a cyberattack — that was the gist of the email
It has many clients including medical institutions among its business partners
and because the impact would be immeasurable if information leaked, it immediately began an investigation
すると
Then
Normally a page like that doesn't get more than a hundred hits a day, with around five thousand or so, but there were thousands of hits, and moreover the company was surprised — I was surprised at how many more accesses from outside Japan there were than imagined
In one week, it confirmed more than 20,000 accesses believed to be cyberattacks
It says the contents came from servers of companies with which it had no business
Among them, there were also traces of someone searching for configuration files containing passwords

A cybersecurity expert points out
that now even small and medium-sized companies face a high risk of being targeted
Companies with fewer than 100 employees
yes, even small factories and the like are being targeted
the size of a company is not really a precondition for being targeted. Attacks using the supply chain have increased greatly, so small businesses are used as a starting point to attack large companies
This company, which diagnoses corporate cybersecurity vulnerabilities, has
seen a surge in inquiries, with requests nearly doubling from before
In the security industry we talk about zero-day attacks — something that was fine until yesterday can suddenly have a flaw discovered today and be attacked
Because attack methods are evolving rapidly and it is difficult to completely prevent information leaks
he says advance preparation is important to minimize damage
When systems stop, for example, whether to work manually or have alternative means ready — you need to prepare that much in advance, and of course everyone will panic, but
it is very important to decide in advance what to do — for example, Person A will
contact customers, Person B will prepare for a press conference, Person C will start an investigation — deciding these things in advance and firmly establishing incident response procedures is important
