It looks like it's going to rain, so let's take an umbrella.

  1. 雨が降りそうit looks like it will rain降る (to fall) becomes 降り + そう: something that looks about to happen.
  2. だからso, because of thatGives the reason for what comes next.
  3. 傘を持っていこうlet's take an umbrella持っていく (take along) in its volitional form 〜こう: “let's” or “I'll”.

降りそう vs 降るそうだ

Attached to the verb stem, そう means “it looks like”: 降りそう = it looks like rain. After the dictionary form, そうだ means “I heard”: 降るそうだ = I heard it will rain.
