Hello friends, dajia hao, hello everyone, I'm Hitoki.
Have you ever had a part-time job?
Have you ever had experiences like slacking off because it's just a part-time job and getting scolded by your boss, or sneaking a bite of leftover food you didn't need?
Well, when we were university students, we often worked part-time, not full-time, whenever we had time.
Probably in Japan, more than 80% of people have had a part-time job.
Some people start working from high school, but quite a few shops don't allow high school students.
Today I want to talk about what kind of part-time jobs Japanese university students do.
But I'll mainly talk about people around me and my own experience, so it may not be super general.
A common part-time job for Japanese university students is working at restaurants.
Chain restaurants or McDonald's.
There are a lot of McDonald's and Starbucks jobs.
Well, this is just my image, but people who work at McDonald's have a cool vibe, like the person sitting alone at the edge of the classroom listening to music with earphones,
like that kind of cool, stylish image.
Also, Starbucks has an image of bright, energetic people with lots of friends working there.
But if you come to Japan and get a part-time job, I highly recommend working at a privately-owned restaurant.
My friend worked at a ramen shop, and the manager there treated even part-timers like family.
Other people working at private shops also said it's really fun, like having barbecues or cooking meals with leftover ingredients.
So you can make more friends, and I recommend jobs at places like that.
Also, surprisingly many people were working part-time at hotels.
Apparently they carry breakfast in the morning or take reservation calls, but since it starts at 6am,
Going to work early on Saturday or Sunday mornings is a bit tough, right?
So for people like me who are bad at waking up in the morning, it's probably impossible.
Also, many people worked as private tutors.
In Japan, after school ends, students often go to cram school or hire a private tutor
and study together.
And many university students do that tutoring part-time job.
I also worked as a tutor, and the pay is a bit high.
The restaurants and hotels I mentioned earlier pay about 10 dollars an hour, but tutoring is often 25 dollars
or 30 dollars an hour.
Also, if you're a medical student or at a good university, it can be even higher.
Maybe because I and people around me are medical students, there were a lot of tutoring jobs.
But more than the money, the best thing is being able to be involved in the student's life.
Since you go to the student's house and teach them, you often become close with the family too.
The families of the students I taught were all really nice people, they often gave me snacks or meals, and for Christmas, since I'm in the ski club, they gave me expensive nice socks for skiing, and they made me a handmade cup by a Japanese craftsman like the mug I used during lessons,
I really felt the love.
At times like this, we say your heart feels pokapoka.
Pokapoka describes a warm and pleasant feeling.
On cold days, your hands often go buruburu, right?
Wait, for buruburu, please watch this video.
When you warm those shivering hands with a heater, it feels so warm and nice, right?
That feeling.
That feeling is pokapoka.
So when you feel love and are happy, and your heart feels somehow warm and pleasant,
you can say your heart is pokapoka.
Also, when the sun is out and the temperature feels really nice, you can say today it's pokapoka outside and feels nice, so please try using it.
Also, some people work part-time at cram schools like I mentioned, but cram schools are like separate schools with individual classes where you teach everyone, so
there may not be that kind of private relationship.
I used to study at a cram school, and my teacher back then,
when he worked as a tutor in Tokyo, apparently went to a super rich family's house.
60 dollars for one hour.
and stuff,
he was already tutoring, and when that kid got into university, apparently the kid suddenly asked Teacher A
or B, which is better, and the teacher was like, huh?
What do A and B mean, but the kid just said pick A or B anyway, so the teacher
said, well then A, and apparently he got a car worth 80,000 dollars.
Apparently B was a car worth 50,000 dollars, and I was really surprised that there are such rich families in Tokyo.
Well, that's a super rare case, but on the other hand, with scary families, if the student's grades drop
I also have a friend who had a really, really unpleasant experience where even the teacher gets scolded.
This is the last one, but surprisingly many people were working part-time at weddings.
After all, weddings take a lot of preparation, don't they.
So apparently they need a lot of people, like people to carry the food and people to set up the wedding venue.
Well, my friend apparently rushed carrying the food, then tripped and spilled it and got fired.
Well, any job is really tough, isn't it.
Were the part-time jobs I talked about today pretty different from part-time jobs in your countries?

Thank you all very much.
Actually, I haven't had any time lately, I just got home after university finished, and my house is pretty far from the university so it took time to get back,
now I'm filming a video, and then I have to go back to the university again, I'm so busy.
Well, it's fun so I want to do it though.
Well, it's really all thanks to everyone, seriously.
Well then, see you later.
