Where does the basic principle of wanting to win in this kind of fight lie?
In a match, if you win overwhelmingly, that's all that matters. So it's not like you want to win by boxing like this. The basic principle is just that you think it's not your own boxing anymore.
Wait, you don't have your own boxing? For example, I like exchanges and I'm good at using my feet too.
There are basic elements, but changing according to the opponent is boxing. Being all-around, you know.

Even if you say that, the opponent is already done. Not a KO or TKO, but the opponent just doesn't come out anymore and the match is over.

Isn't a KO better?
No, that's different. Different. Yes. What I want to do is
make the opponent unable to do anything for all twelve rounds. I want the opponent to think that even if they try again, they can't win. If it's a KO,
they might think they could have won if they hadn't taken that punch, right?
Well, of course, if you think that one punch was a targeted one, then yes,
I understand, but if there wasn't that one punch, they might think they could have won. But from round one to round twelve,
if you're overwhelmingly beaten, you'd never want to fight again, right? I want to do that kind of thing.
Why do you use the word 'overwhelming'? Overwhelming means bam, KO, and it's
'I lost'. True,
for boxing fans watching, that's how it is. But for boxers themselves, being overwhelmed is worse than a KO.
Is it that bad? No, if it were me, I'd absolutely hate it. For example, I've never been overwhelmed from one to twelve, so I don't know, but I'd hate being overwhelmed. Your spirit gets broken, you know. Your spirit
Yes. With a KO, I think your spirit doesn't break. Because you can be careful next time, so that timing
If you're overwhelmed from one to twelve, there's nothing you can be careful about. Because the difference in power is
like heaven and earth, you know.
That kind of thing,
I want to do it, or rather show it off, yes.

It seems
faster, but yes, it's surprisingly slow, right?
Of course there are times when you do it fast, but yes, doing it slowly to check your form, and making sure that's solid — it's not about repetitions. For example, even once is fine, if you can do it well
following the basics, yes, that's okay. And then doing fast, fast speeds, like that.
How should I put it
I feel like it's not just about doing it blindly, yes
Then you're trying your best, yes, Aikawa, that's right, it feels like you're desperately searching, yes, it really is Shadow
Amazing Tomoya's boxing, if you had to say it in one word, what is it?
It's basic, basic
It's a summary of the basic parts, yes, that's what my boxing is about, I only do basic things, you could say
From the outside, maybe
Some people might think it's interesting, others might not
My boxing is just doing basic things 100%, I don't do anything unusual
Faithful to the basics, how does your body feel? Yes, yes
So what are those basics?
For example, yes
The guard position when you take a stance, yes
Positioning
Oh, how you extend your front hand, yes, how you throw a right straight, the things that children who started boxing do, like practicing in front of a mirror
I did all of that and then brought it to the ring
So it's like a textbook?
I make sure I can do everything written in the textbook and then connect it together in the ring, you know
それ

Right now I'm still
only bringing out a part of the basics
I apply various strategy patterns, but if the first one fits well, the second, third, fourth, fifth
strategies don't need to be used
One is something anyone can understand, ah, like this, ah, if this fits, I definitely won't lose, that kind of image
Is there an explanation that makes it understandable?
Take a stance, yes
Front hand, back hand, front hand to the body, right straight, just this, changing where you hit to test the opponent in the match
Show low then high, or show high then low, eye feints, foot feints, body feints, oh, use those, and fight at level one, oh, so
If you say this is totally fine, do you not raise it to level two? There's no need to raise it, against opponents with a level difference
Don't you ever have cases where you use high-level feints but they don't bite? Oh I see, because the opponent isn't keeping up that far, ah, there are, right? Probably they do confusing things, right? Yes, that's right
When that happens, even if you use feints, the opponent doesn't bite and you get hit
I call that not meshing
The stronger you are, the more I think there are movements, but they mesh, right? Yes, do feints absolutely make the opponent bite? Yes
So if it fits at level one, there's no need to bring out level two
Since becoming a pro, have you brought out level two?
Not so far
Not so far, but
Next time, maybe level two or three
I might need to bring those out, so I'm preparing various things
By the way
The amazing basics
How many levels do you currently have?
I only have about this much, no, the level is up to here, but it's more like changing the strategy a bit
Thinking about it that way
How was that basic thing? That 'isn't this too soft' thing
That first match thing, the amazing thing shown by a pro
Techniques to counter, but from the venue
If it's not interesting, the arrow flew
What did you think about that?
Well, regarding changing that match, first, in amateur I had only done three rounds, three rounds, so for that match I couldn't go eight rounds, so first I wanted to do eight rounds
No, you just need to knock them out quickly, right?
For example, let's say
If the third fight became a world title fight, instead of doing twelve rounds for the third fight, adjusting to ten rounds or eight rounds in the first and second fights
If you don't go to the third fight, you can't handle it if an accident happens, right?
Because rounds are long and there's a difference in glove thickness and such
So when I thought about it, I wanted to experience long rounds from the first fight, get a feel for the gloves, and image what it's like to be a pro
At that point
There was also the opponent, so I was watching a bit. I was also looking for someone. I said 'I'm Germany,' and yes, a bit of laughter. I think someone was laughing somewhere during that match, from everyone, that voice
Was it something unpleasant? Not at all
Was it unpleasant? I thought it was interesting. What was interesting?
Doing rounds one through eight, if people watched me, Shingo, it would be interesting, I thought, so I'd finish them here
If I use that strategy, wouldn't I be finished in one round, two rounds? Yes, so if you look at it a bit longer, I can show you something interesting
I thought that, or rather
That's how it was
のか
Right
I'll properly show my fundamentals. Yes, I'll show my fundamentals. All the techniques I've used in amateur
is a place to showcase them
So you strayed a bit from the fundamentals. I strayed a bit, at that moment
Well, waiting for that might also be interesting. I have my own fundamentals, but it's okay to stray. I just need to win that day
Rather than faithfully reproducing it, it's just there, and that day I just need to come back. So boxing style isn't
I mean, if you have a boxing style, you become attached to it, right? Right, right, right. In that case, if it's a matter of compatibility and that boxing style
gets figured out by the opponent, it ends there
Because even in boxing style, for example, there are out-boxers, in-fighters, mid-range fighters, southpaws
This was a really impressive zanshin
Everyone becomes an opponent
If you only do your own boxing, you have to start with your own boxing first, so I don't think you have time to watch the opponent
I have one established thing I'm confident in, and then the opponent's
movements, what the opponent does when they're like this, what happens when the opponent moves like this, I just combine what I have against those things
ただ
Just
They say it was a completely different style a few years ago. Originally I had a rough temperament and had been doing boxing, but
I survived by constantly doing brawling boxing. Yes
Because of that, there were times it went well or didn't go well, and there's no compatibility either, because it's not easy, just brawling
It's about winning or losing. So I had strayed from the fundamentals. I strayed completely
But I thought that was fine
No, no, no, no, it's here
So
What made you think you should be faithful to the fundamentals?
What was the trigger?
The last Tokyo Ring, November 2019?
The Tokyo Olympics were held in Japan, right? So there
If I had won that tournament, I probably would have become the representative. But I couldn't get it with one more. In front of that brother. That was
A defeat in a match where the Tokyo Olympics were on the line
A major setback
Me
Not at all
I thought I was no good, I thought I had to go back to the start. So as a result of re-examining various things, I realized
That it's not simply a sport where you win by brawling
はい
Yes
で
And
Basically, well, there was this period called COVID, and we didn't have matches for about two years.
And it was said that the first match after those two years of COVID chaos would be the World Championships.
So I decided I had to win it no matter what.
So for those two years, I was doing it very seriously. I was doing it seriously, but more faithful to the basics, boxing style, training methods,
and building it up,
trying to practice while thinking about that,
as intended,
and at the World Championships,
Japan won its first gold medal.
No, the way of thinking
changes,
and my boxing training completely changed. It changed.
これは
This is
a big deal. Your life changes too, with that. Yes, it changed.
It really changed.
For about four years I kept winning in Japan with that style, so in a sense there was no need to change,
that's one thing for me, and I got attached to it. My boxing,
because I was so attached to it,
I kept doing it with that style for those four years, and in the end,
I ended up winning and losing at the end and couldn't make it to the Olympics, so when that happened I realized that style isn't necessary.
The basics are there, but depending on the day, the opponent, the environment,
if you change everything, you can fight, right?
I started to realize that.
That's how it is now.
What made a name for him on the professional ring was a showdown with a former world champion. From the early rounds,
he dominated the fight, and in the second half, the corner told him,
'We need to finish it now.'
A one-sided development, you could say he hurt his opponent, a clean word,
まさに
truly
a match. I thought, yeah, the corner was absolutely right.
でも
But
he won big and it was over. Even if you go too far, in the end it's still us.
あの
Um,
you know, I think a chance is a pinch. When it's my chance,
if I let the opponent take it,
it was a chance, because I'm going to go and finish it.
If one punch lands, I could get knocked down too.
So in a sense, I think a chance for me is a pinch, or rather,
that's the basic idea. A chance, because basically,
a chance, you know, they often say a pinch is a chance. They do say that. You don't often hear 'a chance is a pinch,' do you? But that's how it is.
In boxing,
あの
um,
I often tell everyone, a chance,
don't turn it into a pinch. That's what it is. How to do that, you know, this,
when you think 'this chance means I can win,'
you turn yourself into a pinch,
you get nervous, so whether you attack or defend,
a chance
You have to turn it into an opportunity, that's what they say
That's the base, right? The base of it
でも
But
I heard for the first time that an opportunity is a chance to strike. You think, 'Alright, let's go for the takedown,' 'Alright, if this one lands, they'll go down,' don't you?
In those moments, you're only thinking about throwing punches, not about what comes back at you. And conversely, there are patterns where you're the one who gets knocked out
That's what I'm most careful about, I guess
That's also fundamental
しかし
However
In the April match, which became a world title defense fight
In the second round, there was a clash of heads
The match ended there, and
It became a no contest
I really wanted to show Guevara-san that I could overwhelmingly beat a world champion, but it ended like that, so I was really frustrated, but still
Try standing up for a bit
Well, I guess I'm the one to blame
Saying I'm the one to blame isn't a bad thing, it's not bad, but
A clash of heads is something you can avoid
You can do that, too
Because, after all, it was about distance, and if I hadn't entered that distance
Guevara-san might not have had their head clash, the match might not have ended. So maybe my fundamentals were off, my original self, yes
In the end, everything that can happen is my responsibility, I guess, I'm the one who
For example, if my fundamentals are off and I practice like that, in the end, I'm the one who sowed the bad seeds, right?
When you think about it, the Guevara fight
It's a match that made me confirm that those fundamentals are even more important. That's right, in a way it was a really good time
そして
And then
He will face a world title match in his 5000th professional bout
I want to stand in the ring, you know. Setting aside whether I take the belt or not, it's a title match, so if I win, the opponent is also a champion
They'll come at me like their life depends on it
I want to put that feeling aside, aside, aside, and
I want to become, I want to become
A speed match on the world stage
