It is. The blue color of the blue bird is actually not blue.
The pink bird turns pure white.
This is a secret about bird colors that you will want to tell someone after discovering it at Kakegawa Kachoen.
About 600 birds have gathered. In the quiet Kakegawa Kachoen, there are many colors.
There are birds of many colors. Today, I would like to focus on bird colors. Colors are very fun. So, I will be guided by a specialist who can even publish books while walking chicly.
First, let's look at an international bird that was also chosen today.
Does such a flashy bird really exist?
Can you tell? Is there one? It belongs to the very colorful Golden Pheasant family.
What color is it? Amazing. Yes, it is a representative of very beautiful birds.
The Golden Pheasant has a blue, white, and third stage.
It grows. Golden yellow, black stripes, and blue and red, a vivid bird. It is so beautiful.
で
And
if it stands out,
it is easily targeted in the wild, right? That is right.
Why? They live on the ground or in trees, hiding themselves. Is that so? This beauty is to be liked by the female birds.
To attract beautiful females. Ah, to be liked for its flashy appearance. That yellow of the Golden Pheasant
and the female that receives it. The male Golden Pheasant, which has a flashy appearance because it wants to be liked. Its yellow and yellow are beautiful, big, it dances well, it is very wonderful, and it can lay eggs. It is doing this diligently. It is doing this color because it wants to be liked. Yes, that is right. A hardworking male. Yes, that is right. This female Golden Pheasant, unlike the flashy male,
is
very plain
in appearance. The colors are completely different between the male and female, right? Why is that? In the world of the Golden Pheasant, the female does not need to appeal to the male at all to be liked. The male does the dancing
to appeal to the female, so if the female had such a flashy color, as I said earlier, she would be easily attacked by enemies, so the female has a very plain color to protect herself, and she lives a life of protecting her eggs and children. I see. So the male's flashiness is for that purpose. That is the bird.
Yes, next is
a bird with a color that is hard to see. Next, please look closely at the sand over there. Oh, that
is protective coloration, right? That is right.
Amazing, with the sand
it is blending in and looking like an animal that is familiar. This

is an ostrich. Even though it is an ostrich, it is small. The names of a bird called a sandpiper and an ostrich
are included, but it has no relation to either sandpipers or ostriches.
It is a slightly unusual bird called a Tinamou. That is right. I thought, is it a sandpiper or an ostrich? But it has no relation to either. Yes.
Where does it live? It is a bird that lives in sandy areas, forests, and bushes.
And this feather color, the body color, is very
easy to blend in

it is already blending in, so it seems like it wouldn't be found by enemies. Protective coloration. The parenting of the Elegant Crested Tinamou is a little different from other birds.
Who do you think is watching these eggs?
It has the habit of only the male incubating the eggs and raising the chicks. Then what is the female doing while the male is warming the eggs?
The female basically does nothing. She is just standing there with the eggs. Is it the same as before that the male works hard? That is right. Starting from today's birds. Next, the blue birds that are fluffy in the bamboo bird house. Actually, this vivid blue color has a unique secret. There is a very beautiful blue bird in the back. The blue bird is actually not blue.
It is blue. It is blue, but actually, it has no color.
What is it that you are looking at?
はい
Yes.
This, strictly speaking, is not blue due to pigment, but light

It is a structural color, which is called

look bluish, but yes, that is its true color. To explain this, Mr. Hojo took out a CD. The fine bumps and dips on the back of this CD

reflect light well and change the angle, making it look like various colors, but this
structure that reflects the blue color is there. It is difficult, but that
When asked what color the back of this CD is, it is a bit hard to answer, right? It was difficult.
That is happening there. If you enlarge the feather

out of the feather,
so to humans, it is recognized
as blue. Birds are like that. There are some exceptions,
but it is said that birds with that bluish hue
incorporate some form of structural color. Yes, it is surely a mystery or something
a mysterious blue clue. Ah, this one also has a very beautiful color. Ah, indeed, it looks like it is mixing blue due to the shadow of light. But there is no blue color. There is none. How is it working? Next, this is the photo of the Sigui bird announced in science history. The crest, which looks black under natural light, was found to shine like this when light is applied. Actually, bird wings can see ultraviolet light that humans cannot, so a world of colors different from ours is spreading.
Yes.
よ
What I will introduce is
the Kanabi-chan, a member of the falcon family that lives all over the world including Japan.
I would like you to look at the eye ring, the round part
around the eyeball, what color does it look like?
A bit yellowish.
Yes, I think it looks like a light blue to yellowish color,
but birds have ultraviolet vision.
Under the sun
when you look at it, this part looks more yellowish.
Yes, this part reflects ultraviolet light more, so when seen with falcon vision,
the yellow part looks sparkling and dazzling,
and the blue edge part looks a bit dull. Humans cannot tell at all.
What is this useful for?
When looking at a male falcon
from a female's perspective, a sparkling state means it is still a young male. If it is a dull color, it can be seen as an adult male,
so
from a female's perspective, a young male is not a target for mating. Yes, it is said that male birds compete with each other. Eh, it is thin.
Eh, Kanabi-chan
also looks at the male's eye ring and feels like it is still young. Eh, cute. Finally, the bird whose color changes

The flamingo, which lives in a wide range of areas including Africa and Southern Europe.
Why wasn't it pink? Well,
the body color is

Body
What do you mean the color fades from their bodies? Actually, the pink color of these flamingos comes from the pink color in their food,

the pigment is stored in their bodies

the reason that flamingo became pure white
is that it was raised

on dog food as its staple diet.
Since it doesn't contain the carotenoid component that is the source of the pink color, it turned pure white.
After that, at Kakegawa Kachoen, they continued to feed it flamingo food containing carotenoids, and it reportedly returned to pink in about half a year.
By the way, only the pink component affects the flamingo's feathers, so for example, even if you feed them green or yellow food, the feather color won't change,
and they won't become colorful flamingos.
