Hello, this is Tobalog.
Actually, I'm in Los Angeles right now, and I've been invited to an Apple event, so this time we're actually going to take a look at
where the new MacBook Pro is going to be announced. Let's go check it out.
So let's get going right away.
はい
Yes
like this
で
and
the announcement just ended in an instant.
It ended in an instant, but now we're moving to the hands-on area and everyone's rushing in, so let's go check out the hands-on.
So here is the new MacBook Pro. Oh,
It feels just a little bit lighter somehow.
No, this is nice.
It looks like this with nano-texture, oh, wow
It already responded to touch, and this new MacBook Pro,
has this touch panel built in, and the feel of it is very much like nano-texture glass, giving it a really nice vibe.
I'll talk about the touch usability later, but the display looks like this, incredibly
beautiful.
As expected, since it's OLED this time, the black expression and such feel very solid.
Wow, this is amazing.
The sizes are like this, with 14-inch and 16-inch models available this time.
And looking at this, it looks totally normal, just like before, but when you open it
oh wow, this feels like the classic MacBook.
John Ternus was probably really particular about showing off that this part lights up, so what's going on here.
I have no idea how it works though.
Wow, this is incredible.
Is it like a magic mirror?
And looking at the sides, this is great.
I thought there was absolutely no way this time, but I'm grateful that the SD card slot and HDMI are properly included.
Since they said it would be thinner this time, I was quite worried these would be cut, but they're firmly here just like before
along with the MagSafe charger and two USB ports here.
So happy, it feels great.
And when you open the display,
wow, the display is beautiful.
Oh wow.
That smooth feel is so Mac.
This really shows that Apple makes this trackpad.
Since it's touch, it seems you can do things like drawing with touch like this.
Apple Pencil
I wonder if you can use Apple Pencil.
Can I use Apple Pencil?
Can I use Apple Pencil?
Oh, just hands. Just hands. Alright.
Oh, just hands. Just hands. Alright. You can use two fingers, and swipe like this,
this part feels familiar.
Ah, amazing.
うん。
Yeah.
If apps properly support this area, it feels like versatility could increase a lot.
And the screen itself has Nano-texture, so reflections are almost unnoticeable like this.
And Nano-texture has that smooth feel, so like the one for iPhone, the touch feel and touch panel feel are really great.
When you touch, a point appears here, this might be hard to touch, but when you touch it, can you see the screen properly?
Can you see it?
When you tap here, it gets bigger properly and becomes easier to touch.
It's made like that.
This area is different from Windows.
And I think you can interact with it more like the iPad's OS.
And the keyboard is like this, normally with a trackpad equipped, like this.
No, but it somehow feels lighter.
Black is, well, probably for those who like it.
Like this.
Well, the black chassis is nice too.
Yes, this comes out
Ah, like this, split view is also quite
Wow, amazing, here you can type like this and move the screen, and when closing or opening it's like this
When you touch it, this one currently has a glossy display, so touching the glossy screen does seem to show fingerprints quite noticeably.
あります。
It does.
If you want to use the touchscreen heavily, it seems better to get the nano-texture. There's a Dynamic Island,
and if you swipe down here like this,
well, a search screen appears, and opening this makes it a menu bar, and this part also seems to be well crafted,
something like that.
Yes, I couldn't touch it much on site, but the specs for the 14-inch MacBook Pro are like this.
Storage can now be configured up to 16 terabytes.
It's also about one smartphone lighter in weight, and the size feels slightly smaller too.
Now, I'll try out the 16-inch a bit too, it's huge.
It's definitely big, but it feels a bit lighter somehow, and the interfaces are like this.
With a 16-inch touchscreen display, the feel is a bit different from the 14-inch.
MacBook
The screen is big so this feel is quite nice. MacBook
Pro 16
Pro 16-inch specs are like this.
It supports touch and also has 16 terabytes of storage.
And peak brightness is now 2000, so it's brighter.
The weight is noticeably lighter when you hold it.
Yes, and you can also try the iPad mini.
Honestly the iPad mini might be really great.
No, it's better than the iPhone Duo.
It's good after all, the iPad mini.
It doesn't fold, but really, with this iPad form factor the display has become really beautiful.
The shape is the same as the previous model, but the look, or rather
surprisingly the experience itself might be quite good.
And what's good this time is the nano-texture.
And it's surprisingly detailed, can you see this?
This edge part is glossy, but only this inner
screen area is properly nano-texture, which is a strange attention to detail.
I wonder how this works?
iPhone
It doesn't feel like a film is applied, but it's slightly raised, it feels like the glass itself is properly processed. iPhone
The Duo folds so I think it was a polymer sheet, but this is probably proper nano-texture glass.
No, this is nice after all.
Personally, this
nano-texture that doesn't reflect and still shows the screen beautifully
I quite like, and unlike the iPhone Duo, the apps are properly optimized for iPad so it feels really great.
Yeah, the iPad is light after all, the smartphone too, this has the same material feel as the iPhone Duo.
This is the top one, and the inside is properly like this, and this part folds. MagSafe
isn't attached, so it's refined as expected.
This part and only the folding part is properly like silicone or nubuck-like material, with just the surface rough.
Something like that.
So, when you put this on, no, the iPad mini, I feel like this is the right answer, this year's right answer.
The folio on the back feels similar to the previous ones, and, oh, amazing, magnets let it attach steplessly just around this position.
Apple
It has built-in magnets, and in terms of size it's like this, but being able to carry it around like this is really nice. Apple
Pencil
You can use Apple Pencil too.
OLED
The iPad mini specs are like this. With the OLED
With it becoming an OLED screen, the impression is of much higher contrast.
But many people might be concerned about it being 60Hz.
I'm also glad it now has dust and water resistance.
Yes, so for now the touch and try is over.
いや。
No.
This time, surprisingly, contrary to the rumors I'd heard, it's quite a straightforward evolution of the MacBook Pro, so I felt relieved.
Like, this MacBook
I thought maybe a super-thin derivative of that slightly thick Pro with an OLED would come out, but it's more like a normal, steady evolution.
It's more like a normal, steady evolution, I guess.
There are two MacBook Pro models announced this time.
The 14-inch and 16-inch are on sale, and what mainly changed is first, a touch panel was added.
And the display became an XDR display, well, like a Studio Display-style OLED.
And it's gotten quite a bit lighter.
Surprisingly I'm happy about this, well, it's lighter to some extent.
And fourth, you can configure up to 16 terabytes of storage.
Well, when you're editing video that's pretty nice.
Having the option.
And then, well, the biggest highlight, or rather, this is for Apple maniacs.
Or rather, I think it's for people who really love Apple, the glowing logo is back.
Well, I mainly introduced my hands-on impressions from the touch and try, but first the display is this time the most, like,
The highlight, or rather, it feels like it changed quite a bit.
Rather than the chassis design or thinness and lightness, the brightness of the display and the nice color reproduction really left an impression on me personally.
Since I use it every day, this time with tandem OLED, combining two layers of panels like this to reduce reflections and that sort of light bleed-through, making it clearer and sharper, it seems.
Something like that, reducing how light passes through and making it more crisp and vivid, it seems.
MacBook Pro
And also, until now the MacBook Pro
didn't support Adobe RGB, but this time I think it's probably the first in the MacBook series to support it.
Designers and such often go out for meetings and work in various places.
Many people do, so it's quite nice that you can now use it without attaching it to an iPad display, starting from this area.
And from what I actually felt, the color reproduction is really good, and part of that is because they were showing me photos with good colors, but still,
I think it's nice.
Even when editing video, the ease of adjusting colors,
and also, iPhones and iPads are OLED now too, so being able to create with a similar sense of contrast is a nice point.
But as for the touch panel, honestly, people who use it will use it,
and people who don't use it really won't use it at all, I think,
well, it's more like they prepared the box and the box has a touch panel, rather than because it's touch you can do this and that, it's really more like,
like when you're scrolling, just, you know,
while typing on the keyboard you can just swipe with your finger,
Recently, people native to touch panels like on iPad tend to want to touch the screen, and for those people,
I think it's pretty good.
Before, when I interviewed college students, some said they disliked that the MacBook Pro didn't have a touch panel and chose Windows instead,
so there may be those kinds of uses or uses I don't know about.
I use Windows PCs quite a bit too, so I'm fairly used to computers with touch panels, and from that perspective,
well, not quite like iPad or iPhone, but the touch panel feels pretty smooth.
It feels a bit laggy, maybe the software hasn't caught up yet, but even so, compared to Windows PCs,
the usability of the touch panel is amazing.
I do have a good impression of it.
Well, of course I think it's limited to apps that support it, but for things like browser touch, and split view, and scrolling, taking screenshots, just doing that
Swiping and that sort of thing feels almost exactly like using a trackpad, but you can also touch — that's what it's like.
That part might be nice.
But actually, from trying it out this time, the nano-texture display was pretty good.
It has that smooth touch panel feel, and scrolling like this is easy, so it's nice, but with a glossy display, fingerprints will inevitably be quite noticeable.
Especially since MacBooks have fairly large screens, and they have a pretty special coating, so even if you wipe with a cloth, fingerprints don't come off easily, right?
With that same feel but now with a touch panel, I get the impression that people who want to use touch should probably buy the nano-texture version
That's my impression.
Also, I personally thought that since it supports touch, you'd be able to use the software keyboard with touch, but there's no software keyboard at all,
It's hardware keyboard only.
Well, college students, especially freshmen, are used to flick input, so some people might want to use flick input on a PC, but you can't do that, at least for now.
Well, that's about it.
It's not like having a touchscreen makes it incredibly more convenient,
It's more like, if you want to use touch, you can use touch too — you should think of it with about that level of expectation.
Next is the weight.
As for the weight, you can really feel how light it is when you hold it in your hand.
This time the 14-inch is 1.38 kilograms, which is 220 grams lighter than before.
And the 16-inch is
1.82 kilograms, a full 320 grams lighter, so there's quite a difference in weight for each, and especially for the 16-inch, like
Was the 16 really this light?
It feels kind of like a 14.
There's that much of a weight difference, so I feel like people who were hesitating because of the weight might consider the 16-inch now.
It's light, right?
Pretty much
Well, either way, if you put it in a backpack
the weight while carrying it around doesn't change that dramatically, but when you hold it like this, like when you're in the living room
it makes a fair difference then, so that's a nice point.
As for the chip, just as previously rumored, it comes in M5 Pro and M5 Max configurations.
Well, there's also M6,
but the M6 doesn't have Pro or Max versions, so they'll probably be released with the next generation model — so that's that.
I don't really feel like, oh it's not M6 so I hate it, and if next year this same
I guess if this same form factor model comes out with another new chip, I'd buy it.
That's how I feel.
And the price is quite high, starting at 499,800 yen for the 14-inch,
and starting at 599,800 yen for the 16-inch — truly living up to the Pro name.
In a good way, price-wise.
The maxed-out configuration is 2,577,680 yen, so it's quite expensive.
