Riz, we have to get into.
I want to get into the movie and how great you are.
There's a war buzz around your performance, and I think well, there's we'll get into all that.
But you were phenomenal in this movie, and I'll get into it.
But congratulations, you were next level.
Before we get into that, I want to thank you.
Last time you were on our show, you came on and you pitched yourself to be the next James Bond.
I remember.
And you looked sharp.
Why is that always so funny?
No, no, nothing.
And now, and now you came on and actually did a great pitch.
We did.
Then I just saw this.
James Bond has been cast.
Suggests the writer.
Is there news that you want to tell us tonight, Riz Ahmed?
No.
ない。
All right, no.
Well, that's that's a bummer.
I was hoping you might have some news because we did a new show, we wasn't it?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I do have news.
I'm not James Bond either.
No, I was completely.
They wouldn't even let me audition.
They wouldn't let someone in the audience is probably James Bond.
Thank you for doing that.
We were talking about your show, Bait, which, by the way, was genius idea.
Got nominated for an Emmy.
Congratulations, bud.
That was fantastic.
Yeah.
うん。
That's got to feel good.
It feels good.
Yeah.
うん。
It's such a different idea.
Well, yeah.
I mean, the show is based on this kind of comedy James Bond kind of concept, but actually, it's so personal.
It's like drawn so much from my life, and it's really lovely.
It's a family.
We shot it in my old neighborhood.
The house we shot in was like modeled exactly after the house I grew up in.
So, love it.
It's really from the heart.
Yeah.
うん。
And I know that you you you bring your mom to a lot of these events.
The Emmy, the the you brought it to the Digger premiere.
Here's you and your mom.
Come on.
Look how pretty.
Look how proud.
Proud mom.
She she fun day.
She's the best.
She's the best.
Such a so funny because I look at that and I think like I'm trying to give blue steel, and she's just laughing at me.
That's that's what actually is happening.
No, she's she's the best.
She leaves such a good impression on people.
Actually, it was funny because the Digger premiere, she met Prince William, she met Kate, she met Tom.
I said, "How'd you like Tom Cruise?
" She said, "Nice boy." Nice boy.
And when we were just about to go on stage to present the film for the first time to the world in front of the royal family and everyone, this whole moment, us, the whole cast, crew, director, producers waiting in the wings, Tom turns around, he draws a deep breath, everyone thinks, "All right, he's going to give a speech, say something inspirational." He just points to me and goes, "Riz." And he looks at me and he goes, "Your mom, amazing." Love your mom.
Fantastic.
You perform.
That's such a good Tom Cruise.
That's a great Tom Cruise.
That was the the last words we heard before presenting the film to the world.
No way.
Good on you, Tom Cruise.
Yeah.
うん。
Thank you, mummy.
Yeah.
うん。
Thank you, mummy.
Let's talk about Digger.
This is one of the biggest films of the year, and man, I can't even tell you.
I I I couldn't wait for it to come on because I can't talk to anyone about this film because I don't want to spoil anything.
Yeah, it's the the less you know, the better.
But it's a real roller coaster, and it's so it's so kind of different.
I think it's fresh.
It's something new.
I think so.
I mean, there's just been this conversation for a long time, right?
People saying we want movies to go back to being really original.
Yeah.
うん。
You know, I remember back in the day where it was just fresh stories and told in such a kind of brave way, such a big swing.
This is that, man.
This is the most extreme version of that.
Everyone is out there doing something so different.
So I say to people, like, please see it for yourself and and be part of that conversation about where we want movies to be.
Yes, it is.
We want something different.
We do.
We want something.
I I want to see it again.
I want to see it again because I go, oh wow, wow, wow, wow, wow.
I want to see it.
There's things you miss and then you find them again.
Tom Cruise, it's on unbelievable.
I mean, he's driven motorbikes off cliffs and stuff.
This in a way was just as crazy and scary what he was doing.
It was like jumping into the unknown.
When you see what he's done in this movie, there was one take.
One continuous take on that.
Yeah.
Did you go to see it even when you weren't in scenes with him just to watch him act?
I I did, you know.
Um, there was that kind of vibe where we were all almost just like theatre on the sofa.
We were all in it together, just supporting each other and and finding it.
And um, honestly, like the attention to detail in the world that's been built in this movie.
That's in this movie.
I'd be walking around like with my jaw on the floor, like this is crazy.
And then someone taps me on the shoulder, and I'm going, This is crazy, isn't it?
And I look, and it's Tom Cruise.
And I say, You've seen it all.
You've done it all.
So if he thought that we knew we would really try to do something really special again, just trying to do something truly fresh and original for people.
But you you more than held your own with uh Tom Cruise.
Uh, I mean, one of the best performances I've ever seen is is you.
You crushed it, buddy.
Did he stay in character?
Well, it was it was kind of because we all had this kind of transformation.
So I mean, prosthetics here.
Um, and obviously, so it's Tom.
Yeah.
Tom was looking like he's never looked better, Tom Cruise.
Yeah.
But it did.
But it was a bit like everyone was telling me Tom Cruise is in this movie, and I'm like, this is gaslighting.
Tom Cruise is not in this movie.
Digger Rockwell is in this movie.
Yeah, whoever this dude, he's in this movie.
This guy has a lot of fun, though.
I got to tell you.
Yeah.
うん。
But it was interesting because you start getting used to these prosthetics.
So I start thinking like, What does this guy look?
You know.
ね。
And so I'd take out my phone, and the face ID would not be working.
And I'd be like, I gotta get a new phone.
Yeah, and then I'm FaceTiming my son.
He was like a little baby at the time, and I'd be like, Hey, what's up?
No recognition.
Yeah, yeah.
And there's crying.
It's like calling me funny man.
He was like funny man.
He thought he got a new uncle or something.
Yeah, that.
It's me, the funny guy.
But what?
What?
何？
It was almost like a dance.
You and Tom Cruise to watch you guys act together.
It's like watching a great tennis match.
It was so well done, and the timing and all those lines.
You gotta be precise.
Yeah, it's interesting about that—the timing and stuff.
There was this crazy rumor going around that this movie is a musical.
I know, I heard that.
Right?
Yeah.
うん。
It's not a musical.
Yeah.
うん。
But I've never used my musical background more in a film, and it's because it has such a particular tone that we spoke actively about rhythm, pace, speed, pitch, tone of delivery of of lines in a way that you never normally would in a movie.
It was like one of those old 1940s like Cary Grant movies.
Yeah.
うん。
The way people are talking and they're just going something fast now, but and it's like it's a ratatat kind of thing.
So it reminded me of that background in in rapping, and Alejandro himself was almost like he was like the conductor leading us all.
So yeah, again, everything about this process was so different because when you wanted to make something, it's just totally different.
It's different.
It's special.
It's great.
I want to show everyone a clip.
Here's a riz ad and Digger.
Take a look.
Toro, some blood.
Oh, no, thank you.
Well, you don't eat tuna.
I try not to.
Oh, the only difference between trying not to eat tuna and not eating tuna is that sometimes, sometimes you do.
Well, we've seen the bluefin population decrease by 97 percent in the last few years, even though this administration won't label them endangered.
It's all right.
I'll pass thanks.
Thank you.
You're lost.
No, don't worry.
My dedication is entire existence.
The preservation of life and the process forgets to live himself, and yet here I am, not eating tuna.
Still alive.
I'd be alive.
Treasure living.
Yeah.
うん。
Oh, come on!
Riz ad!
Digger!

It's been Digger's night, this Friday.
