Yes, so Tatsuya-san is here with us again. Tatsuya-san, thank you for joining me.
I have something I'd like to ask.
Yeah. Oh, Tatsuya-san, you're married, right? Yes. Yeah. And this is a very difficult topic to ask about, but
who manages the money and how,
I want to ask about.
I see. Yeah, yeah.
Right. It's a pretty intrusive question, isn't it? Yeah, exactly. But it doesn't have to be about your situation, Tatsuya-san, just in general,
how people handle it,
I'd like to hear about that. Yeah, yeah. So, as a common pattern,
the typical type from the past is probably
the husband earns the money, and the wife manages the entire salary. Yeah,
that's what you might call the old-school typical type. Yeah. I think it's well-known,
but
いや
is that your style?
No. It's not? That's the 'allowance system,' right? Yes, that's the old-school allowance system. Yeah. That
the wife manages it every month,
and gives the husband, say, 30,000 or 50,000 yen as an allowance. Yeah, yeah.
What other styles are there?
Well, this is the style we use, and since we both work,
we consider
each other's earnings as belonging to both of us. Yeah. And
rent and living expenses, things like that. Those are things the two of us
have to pay for,
so we split them proportionally. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We both contribute. So, yeah,
there's a personal wallet and a shared wallet for the two of us.
Oh, I see. So there are three wallets in total. That's right. I don't really know how many people around me do it that way,
and I don't know if it's mainstream or not.
うん
Yeah.
I have heard of friends who are on the allowance system.
I see. The word 'hanbun' (half) you used earlier is quite difficult, I think. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Could you explain? Yes, sure. Let's take food expenses, for example. Yeah, yeah. If you split food expenses in half,
I eat more, so wouldn't that be unfair? Ah, yeah, yeah. So, generally,
we think about how much more I eat compared to my wife, and we divide it by a certain percentage.
So, not exactly half. That's right.
Thank you. Yeah, yeah. I see, so you both use it at a good ratio.
Yes, that's how we use it from there. Right.
Are there any other patterns?
Other patterns are,
well, things I've heard of, or
a somewhat rare pattern that a friend of mine has, but
uh, a husband who earns money and
Yeah, well, there's no need to work.
That's the wife's pair, right? Yeah, yeah.
Since the income is high, it covers living expenses and my own pocket money.
I've heard that the wife does something like a part-time job just to earn her own pocket money.
Is that so? Yeah.
Yeah, there might not be many people like this. Well, you could say she's a full-time housewife, but she wants to buy what she wants with her own money.
Well, she also works part-time because she wants to stay connected to society. Yeah, yeah. That's what it is. Yeah, I see.
But recently, there are many dual-income couples, right?
That's right. Yes, dual-income means...
Well, it's a state where both of them are working. Yeah, yeah. I wonder if there are only dual-income couples now.
There aren't many, are there?
I wonder about that. Maybe.
It might depend on the region, but certainly, ah...
But where I live, there are many families living there.
Yeah, yeah. Families with small children, well, there are some full-time housewives.
Yeah, ah.
That's right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I see. Until the child enters school, etc. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think there are probably those limited-time periods. Yeah, yeah.
Yeah. Yeah, but with a shared wallet, do you ever have fights like, 'I want this, but shouldn't we not buy it?'
Fights, or rather, well...
In order to use the shared wallet,
you need each other's approval.
So there are discussions like, 'Is that really necessary?'
Right. Right. Do you do that each time, or...
Is there a regular meeting once a month?
Each time.
Each time. I see. Well, basically, I'm more...
the one who decides.
Is that so? So you say, 'It's not necessary, right?'
You're very firm, aren't you?
Firm, or rather...
So, even if I really want something, I usually buy it with my own money. Ah, I see. Yeah, ah.
You're that type. Interesting. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Right, right. It's completely different depending on the family. That's right.
And we don't really talk about this kind of thing, so we don't know how other houses do it. That's right. Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
I see. So, is there anything you've compromised on so far but bought anyway and thought it was good?
I hope this doesn't lead to a fight. I'm about to ask.
I won't show it.
What could it be?
That's right. Well, but...
It's not exactly a compromise, but maybe furniture or something? People who like interior design.
So, yeah, yeah. They research it really hard. Yeah, yeah. And...
Since I see them researching so hard, even if I think it's a bit expensive, I might say, 'It's okay.' Is there that?
Also, seeing the wife's happy face, right? Yeah, that's right.
Yeah, furniture and such, the price is quite high, isn't it? Yeah.
That's right. Well, but...
If it's expensive, it might be a good product, right?
If it's cheap and breaks immediately, it's a bit of a waste. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's good. That's right.
So, is there anything you two thought about a bit but were glad you bought or glad you used?
It could be a trip or something.
ああ
Ah.
Well, I do travel a lot.
I've never really regretted going on an overseas trip. Yeah.
それは
That is...
Let's see, as for things I've bought, I wonder what it would be.
It's not something expensive at all, but...
Um, what do you call it? It's a vegetable slicer or something like that. Yeah, yeah.
あれ
That thing.
The effect on my life was greater than the cost. My quality of life improved. Yeah, exactly.
Yeah, that was really cheap, so I didn't have to think much about buying it, but I'm really glad I did. Yeah.
That's a recent one. Ah.
That's nice. You mentioned you've never regretted an overseas trip, so what was the best overseas destination you've been to, or perhaps somewhere you enjoyed visiting recently?
Well, it's hard to compare, but...
That's true.
Yeah, a few years ago I went to Bali, Indonesia, and that was the first time I...
I did something like that. Yeah, yeah.
I didn't take time off work specifically, well, it was a vacation, of course.
But I went for a long period, about two weeks, on the premise of working at a hotel there. Yeah, yeah, that was...
It was really great. What was good about it was that, of course, I could go sightseeing on my days off, but...
When it wasn't my day off,
I would work, just like I do in Japan, and when evening came,
like a local,
I'd go out for dinner. Yeah.
Being able to go to the places where the locals go was really fun. Yeah, ah.
That's nice. You traveled like you were living there. Yes, yes, yes, that's exactly it. Ah, that's nice. Yeah.
That's right. Even when you travel, it's hard to...
I don't think there are many opportunities to have the same experiences as the locals. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I think I was able to have such a valuable experience. Yeah, that's great. Both you and your wife must be very satisfied.
Yeah, that's right. We talk about wanting to go again. Oh, is that so? Yeah.
So, do you have any plans for the future? We don't have any overseas trips planned at the moment, but...
There are many places we want to go,
so we talk about that every now and then. Yeah, that's nice. So, if you save up little by little in that joint wallet...
That's right. Yeah, ah, that's nice.
Well, thank you for sharing such valuable stories today, things I don't often get to hear.
