This time, I'd like to talk about various things regarding the new anime airing this season, "Lent Magical Power Will Be Forcibly Collected with Revolving Payments"
This is quite an intense title. This season, there's FX too
There's revolving payments too, there's a lot of darkness in various ways, but this work is, so to speak, a banishment story
As an introduction,
The protagonist, who has devoted himself for his comrades, is told he is banished from the party without his contributions being understood
And right after being banished, his ability awakens and he goes to take revenge on his comrades
It depicted that super familiar banishment introduction that feels like we've seen it about a million times. But
The biggest distinctive feature of this work is that it combines that with the original element of lending and borrowing magical power with revolving payments
First, the protagonist of this work, Rent, is together with his childhood friends
He's in an adventurer party with them. And the protagonist's role is that he
He has this ability called Mazo-oko that allows him to store magical power and lend it to others
Thanks to Rent's ability,
They were able to draw out power beyond their own
And that's why they were able to step up and get stronger much faster
But his comrades
As they grew stronger through battle, they began to take lightly the contributions Rent had made for them until now
And as a result,
They treat him like dead weight, saying they don't need him in their party anymore, and expel him
First, that classic, crowd-pleasing introduction for banishment-genre fans was depicted
Despite having fought hard and devoted himself for his comrades, without his contributions being understood,
He is treated like a freeloader and banished. And if it goes according to the usual developments from here on,
His former comrades
After being ruined by the protagonist's ability, they'll realize the protagonist's true worth, leading to that too-late regretful comeuppance development
That would be the so-called standard development, but whether it will actually proceed that way depends on what comes next
ということで
So,
The introductory part of this work depicted the banishment template we've seen over and over again, so there wasn't really anything that stood out
I thought. Yes. And
From here on,
Regarding the revolving payment element, which is the biggest feature of this work,
Revolving payments are something that exist in reality too, and they're said to be the end if you touch them,
They're a very dangerous thing, but this work deals with it and depicted that danger in episode 2 as well
It was depicted
これ
This
Is that really what that is
To the point of wondering if it's that kind of thing
There was such a full-on explanatory part that I got it a bit. Well, in reality, revolving payment exists as a repayment option for borrowed money, but in this work, borrowing magical power is treated as debt. Yeah.
There was such a full-on explanatory part that I got it a bit. Well, in reality, revolving payment exists as a repayment option for borrowed money, but in this work, borrowing magical power is treated as debt. Yeah.
And it's not just repaying it and being done with it, but interest is added and it's forcibly collected, which is quite ruthless
Well, to put revolving payments super simply, you can keep your monthly payments fixed, but
With fees added on top, the principal barely decreases, so there's a possibility of paying money forever, that hellish problem, and well, that
The mechanism is replaced with magical power and depicted in this work
The mechanism is replaced with magical power and depicted in this work
In other words, his former comrades had been borrowing magical power from the protagonist for a long time and refusing to repay it
They kept saying that. So all along,
The borrowed magical power
Kept piling up more and more. But eventually it has to be repaid. Moreover, interest accrues daily on the enormous amount of magical power borrowed over their lives so far,
So the burden of repayment is getting bigger and bigger. I thought using this as a means of revenge was quite interesting. Yeah. Also, the party members
So the burden of repayment is getting bigger and bigger. I thought using this as a means of revenge was quite interesting. Yeah. Also, the party members
Had been using Rent's magical power since childhood as if it were naturally their own
But that is
It really drives home the feeling that it was never yours to begin with, that you'd just been borrowing it from others,
that's what it makes you feel. Yeah. And on top of that,
we've now entered a stage where just paying back what we borrowed all this time is no longer enough — all of the rudeness from our arrogant attitude,
coming back to yourself in the form of magical power — so going forward it looks like a real serves-you-right development, but the protagonist is strong
It's not like he just becomes strong and, you know,
does that and it's over — it's more like making the other side directly taste what he suffered for all those years, for that whole period,
that kind of approach is a very interesting method, I felt, in that exchange.
Yeah.
うん
Hmm.
And another thing that caught my attention was,
What stood out to me was how the former party members are depicted as truly evil people,
In the typical banished-type or revenge-type stories where the protagonist makes the other side taste the retribution they set up,
I personally feel there has to be some balance between what was suffered and what is paid back,
And to justify dropping them into the infinite hell of revolving payments and destroying them, bankrupting them,
in order to keep that balance, the former companions,
their personalities, how should I put it, are taken to the very bottom, to the extreme, depicted as scum with
not a single redeeming quality. That felt incredibly thorough to me.
On the other hand, the protagonist Rent is actually pretty timid, and when the revolving payment plan is proposed, he's like 'come on, really?' but there's another character called M.P.,
and he gets egged on by this guy,
like 'no no, you've got to do at least that much,' and he changes his mind — in this work, even more than the protagonist Rent, this M.P., this fairy,
when the protagonist's ability awakens, this character kind of pops out,
this fairy,
and she acts like a guide, steering the protagonist's thoughts, like,
there's this crazy thing called revolving payments, you know? She suggests it, and everything starts from there,
It doesn't start from the protagonist's own will, but from a separate being's will
intervening — that structural interestingness is, I feel, very much tied to what makes this work fun.
Visually she looks like a so-called mascot character,
that kind of vibe, but,
at times she also looks like an entity that could drag the protagonist down to the dark side. She looks cute, but the actions she causes are
terrifying — that gap itself is, I think,
functioning as one of the fun aspects,
that's how it felt to me. Yes.
So today I talked about the work 'Lent Magical Power Will Be Forcibly Collected via Revolving Payments.' It's like something I've seen a million times, a template-style expelled-party story, but with this incredibly catchy title and a setup that has real originality, which I found interesting. Yes.
The pull of that title alone, and the premise — there's uniqueness there that I found interesting. Yes.
But other than that, it really felt like just a combination of templates,
so I'm curious to see how they'll expand on that going forward. Everyone,
