This time I'd like to talk about the new anime airing this season, "Tank Chair."
This one isn't getting talked about at all, but it's incredibly interesting. I think it deserves to get a lot more attention.
Well, what kind of story it is, it's about the strongest hitman riding in a wheelchair and fighting vicious criminals — a pretty unusual battle action. Amazing.
What left an impression is the existence of the tank wheelchair that gives the title its name, and the protagonist's
wheelchair as a means of transportation
it's not that, but rather this wheelchair has been remodeled into a super offense-focused weapon —
that remodeled existence is this Tank Chair, and various different Tank Chairs with different variations
appear, and depending on them the combat style itself, the way the fights are
presented itself changes — I felt this is the big appeal of this work as a battle action.
And the one who operates that Tank Chair
who controls that Tank Chair is, normally,
without regaining consciousness,
a protagonist, the strongest hitman, who only awakens when killing intent is directed at him. And what's interesting is that to wake up
her brother, the strongest hitman, his little sister
hires dangerous hitmen day after day, and sends the hired hitmen after her brother to direct killing intent at him — just this setup alone is insanely wild and interesting.
So it's like,
there's a pretty unique setup,
and on top of that there's the story development incorporating the siblings' characters, this brother-sister love, and the varied action battles with the Tank Chair — the story is interesting here and the visuals are also very
depicted attractively, so I thought it's quite a good work.
First of all, the protagonist Tairanagi is,
once feared as the strongest, an incredibly powerful hitman. But at one point, when he threw himself
to protect his little sister Shizuka from the enemy,
he took a bullet to the brain,
his brain got scrambled, and while he barely survived, he ended up in a state where his consciousness never returned, and since then he's been living in a wheelchair.
and just sitting in the wheelchair, like he's just riding it,
that's the state he's in.
But it's not that he's completely finished, and when
killing intent is directed at him, his consciousness awakens in response — he's in this very special state, and this setup is really interesting.
It's not a story where the protagonist chooses to fight of his own will.
It's the opposite. In a so-called battle series,
someone wants to protect someone, or defeat the enemy in front of them, or become stronger — there's some goal and the fight begins, but in this work, Nagi
has no consciousness to begin with, so he basically can't start a fight on his own. In order to enter the space to fight,
a preparatory stage is needed where the enemy directs serious killing intent at him.
is needed.
In other words, as a stage before
する
fighting,
as a preliminary step,
unless someone seriously tries to take his life, the fight can't even happen. It's taking the opposite steps from a normal
battle work.
And then, while he normally has lost consciousness, when killing intent is directed at him by the enemy he awakens and tramples them with overwhelming strength —
he normally hides himself, but when
a crisis comes he appears dashingly and beats them to a pulp — it also includes a hero-like nuance, and this also feels refreshing.
As a setup for a battle series, I felt it fit together extremely well. Yeah.
And next, the little sister Taira Shizuka, who could be called the other protagonist of this work — this character
was also memorable. Shizuka is working like a broker among hitmen in order to fully awaken her brother Nagi, and
at times,
she brings Nagi to the enemy's hideout,
and at other times she hires bare-handed hitmen and schemes in various ways to make them direct killing intent at Nagi, standing in between and somehow creating Nagi's
playing a role like arranging the battlefield for him.
It's incredible.
The older brother is also thinking so much about his little sister,
and the little sister is thinking incredibly much about her brother too, so there's this tremendous sibling love here, but it's depicted in a very twisted— well, not so much twisted as a very unique way, and
that's what makes this work so interesting,
To fully awaken his brother,
he needs to be directed with an exceptional killing intent, a light killing intent only awakens him for an instant, so with an intense,
almost overwhelming killing intent, maybe Nagi could fully awaken,
return to how he was before, thinking that, every day she seeks out assassins, all kinds of highly skilled assassins,
trying this one, trying that one, days spent throwing them at Nagi,
which must be unbearable from Nagi's perspective, but that's how much—
his sister Shizuka, because her brother fell unconscious protecting her,
she just can't bear it in various ways, there's so much she can't stand, and out of a single-minded desire to
somehow bring her brother back to normal with her own hands, she keeps throwing assassins at Nagi one after another— it's twisted in many ways, but it's such pure love, it's so pure, this sibling love in
a form that really could only be shown in this work, and that's another really interesting part of it. Yeah. And what I think is great every time is
that after Nagi defeats an enemy, his awakened state keeps going for a while,
but once a certain amount of time passes, Nagi suddenly snaps, like his power was cut off, and all of a sudden
he ends up in a completely motionless state,
and until then, the two siblings alone together exchange all these trivial, everyday conversations,
like 'eat your vegetables,' and the brother says all these things to his sister that show just how much he's thinking about her,
and the sister, in turn, talks to her brother about all these everyday,
trivial little things from daily life, but then suddenly, the moment that directed killing intent—
the moment that energy runs out,
he stops moving completely, and Shizuka's indescribably sad atmosphere in that moment
is expressed so incredibly well, and from there,
the scene where she quietly pushes the wheelchair that Nagi is sitting in really hits hard,
And then there's the fun of the Tank Chair, which supports the battle action of this work,
this thing called the Tank Chair,
it comes in all kinds of variations,
and by swapping out this Tank Chair, this variation,
each time, they can give the action itself a huge change,
For example,
with the basic, mobility-focused type, he wipes out enemies all at once, sometimes attaching spikes
to climb up walls, with a really speedy kind of
combat style being depicted, but at other times he rides an extra-bulky, attack-specialized Tank Chair and runs enemies over,
which is also super flashy and dynamic and fun, and at other times,
against long-range opponents he becomes a fixed turret and blasts out iron shells like crazy, it's just so wild—
just by changing this variation, the combat style completely
changes into something totally different,
creating a fresh battle scene every time, and it's incredibly fun,
So this time I talked about the new anime 'Tank Chair.' Man, it's really interesting,
Well, inevitably, once it becomes
3DCG, I get the impression that a lot of people will drop it right at that point, it's still something that really divides tastes,
but the quality is really incredibly high, the characters are super charming and the battle scenes are
seriously unique and cool. So for me personally, this is a work I highly recommend, so if you're at all interested, it's a work I'd like you to try watching at least once,
