Good morning. I'm Nogami from the Sales Section, Visual Systems Department, Information Systems Division, Mitani Shoji Co., Ltd.
Yes, nice to meet you
First thing in the morning, I have one internal meeting

I have one online meeting with a client
And I'm scheduled to go out for two visits in the afternoon
In the Visual Systems Department that Ms. Nogami belongs to,
Despite being a trading company, they develop image analysis software in-house
Ms. Nogami is in charge of sales for the western Japan area, proposing that software
Our main product is
this software called WinROOF
That's our main product
For example,
これ
this
is an image of a metal cross-section,
We often get requests to measure the size or area of these black parts
We often receive such requests
And this,
by binarizing it,
you can think of the parts turned green as being 1 on a pixel-by-pixel basis,
and those parts are then
measured in length or quantified on a pixel basis. WinROOF is
software that measures the size, count, area, and more of objects from captured images and outputs the results as data
Some customers enclose each of these particles in circles to calculate them,
Some people print them on paper,
and for the areas they want to detect,
cut them out with scissors,
and calculate the ratio by the weight of the cut paper
With this software, it speeds things up, and anyone will get the same result — that's what makes it so convenient
I think it can be a tool like that
I think it's that we can propose products from various manufacturers, but with this image processing, there are inevitably images that are suitable for this processing
that are easy to binarize,
or that have high resolution so you can capture images with a large amount of data — there are such characteristics, so what kind of imaging equipment to use,
what kind of lighting to use, things like that
what kind of lighting to use, things like that
I think our strength is that we can help from the stage of creating images
I think that's a strength
First of all, I check the schedule for the week, and since I was on a business trip all last week, I'll check emails and other details I haven't been able to look at closely
By the way, which one
Last week I was in Taiwan
When in Taiwan, surprisingly there's almost no time difference, so it didn't pile up that much, but when I was in New York for about a week recently
quite a lot piled up, so when I have a fairly big business trip like that, I tell clients that my replies will be delayed
I contacted them in advance
Mr. Nogami says he often goes on overseas business trips like this
He organizes his activities and information gained locally, and attends the morning in-house meeting
Well then, I'd like to start the weekly report. First, the regular weekly meeting

If you input an image, it will look like this
This shows that the image processing flow can automatically produce results up to output
And for this specification, I think it will be such that when you input an image, the results will come out automatically
Thank you for your continued support
Yes, thank you very much. Excuse me
The one who joined the meeting was Kodama from development
We asked about his relationship with Mr. Nogami and his usual work
I think he's really good at explaining so that even people who know nothing about image processing can understand
Thank you very much. Nakamura
Did you yourself have that kind of knowledge
か
?
Back in my university days, no, not at all. Since it's our own product software, I learned by using it a lot
and also our company encourages qualifications quite a lot, so through studying for IT Passport, Fundamental Information Technology, and
image processing certification and such qualifications
I built up my knowledge
Since it's quite versatile
there are a lot of buttons
So at first glance it can seem intimidating to customers, but
I'm only in my first year but I can use it, so it's totally fine
そういう
That kind of
I've made that kind of appeal
Lunch with a colleague who works elsewhere
Your hairstyle today is cute
You do that a lot. A lot
You want to reply to emails, right. Yes, yes, yes, yes. And
When I'm in the office, I'm always in my fixed spot. I sit at that single seat at the end, so I sit across from her,
となん
so that we're
close enough to talk. Yes, she comes to sit across from me, so I'm just talking to her one-sidedly a lot,
I'm also very curious, so I thought I'd like a place where I can be involved with various industries,
so
I chose a trading company because it seemed broad. I'm competitive, so when I was job hunting,
I thought I could do various things,
and work with big numbers,
so I thought my competitive personality would be a good fit,
and chose a trading company.
Being competitive, like,
well, there was a trigger back in my student days. I like sports, so in college I worked really hard on weight training,
really. Yes,
I remember that very well, but the place where I could most picture myself working was
Shoji. Mitani Shoji,
their people were really,
how should I put it, friendly,
and the biggest thing was that they gave me an image of myself working there,
I think.
I also met
quite a few other employees.
Yes, at information sessions they gathered quite a lot of different employees,
at Shoji, there were people of various age groups, from young people to manager-level people,
and I had chances to talk with various people at information sessions and
various
such occasions,
and I talked with various people there. When I was job hunting, when I searched for Mitani Shoji, the words on their homepage were like,
you can do real work even when you're young, young,
I don't know, several amazing people were picked out, and their work and daily schedules were featured,
so I thought a company like that would be great,
like, maybe here,
I thought.
The deciding factor for joining was that HR was
very supportive,
that's it. After I got the job offer, they set up one-on-ones with employees,
and HR contacted me quite frequently,
so that kind of follow-up was thorough,
and I thought an environment like that would be amazing.
It's my family home.
I don't feel at a disadvantage at work or anything,
I don't think there are any negatives, and since there are many men in this industry, when I go there,
um,
あの
on the contrary, they get interested and remember me,
and I can proceed with business talks while staying friendly,
in sales, sometimes people say like, please don't come anymore. That basically never happens,
yes. I now have three children,
and pick-ups and drop-offs can be quite tough,
so I'm using shortened working hours. I'm also using telework,
yes, that's how I'm working.
yes, that's how I'm working.
By the way, Dad, what kind of schedule do you have?
Today, for example, at 8 in the morning
I leave the house
drop off my son
drop off my daughter
then go to the station, and arrive at work before 9
then leave work
and pick up the kids
do lessons, go shopping, make dinner, give them baths, and the day ends
Honestly, at certain stages, well, a bit
it was hard to go back to the workplace
did you ever feel anything like that? Yeah, I don't really
I'm the type who doesn't worry about that, so I haven't really felt it
Well, I just tried to do my best within the time I had. Yeah, I did think about not wanting people to think it's because I have kids
By the way, like Ms. Mori
taking maternity and parental leave
I feel bad even for people who are doing so well
There are quite a few recently. Oh, really
In advance
when meeting schedules come in
if I know in advance from what time to what time
I apply
hire a babysitter and have meetings during that time
Other than that, there's a system where HR helps subsidize it. In addition, Mitani Shoji has telework plus
systems to support employees' work styles and lives, such as encouraging qualifications and subsidizing home rent
In the afternoon, I'll visit a partner company that handles filming equipment
It's Mr...
Yes. We also handle image processing software, but for the filming part, with clients
we consult with them, and sometimes provide it as a combined system
as such a partner company, yes
さんと
with Mr...
we have a relationship
Well, in a week

on-site visits, visits to clients
three to four times a week
if it's just web meetings
that's also about three or four times, I guess. So almost every day
That's right
I have one or two a day
Do you travel a lot on business? Yes, a lot
はい
Yes
How much do you travel per month? Per month
how many days
about how many, I wonder
It's a lot, yes
Like three days, twice, something like that
That's the image. But for large projects, there's also going for a whole week straight
あります
Yes, there is
I see. Yes. It's here

The person who greeted Nogami-san was Mano-san from the partner company
They have known each other since joining the company
Together they have faced customer requests
They're saying they want to measure that height with that microscope. Going to the top 100 contamination spots every time
Measure the height Z and take images and output that height data
They say to output it
できますか
Can you do it
Um, precession can be done once but the Z axis can't be measured. It won't come out. It won't come out. So that part
has to be done with your software
Probably can't do it
It depends on the option. Yes. So that means, with the microscope
controlling that screen and creating that CSV data one by one
can't you do that
Manually
Doing manually what to do mechanically, this button, next, next, next, next, like that
Something like that. Well, probably the fixed locations are different. There, in order, once you go here
取とる
capture
Yes, yes, yes
From a certain microscope manufacturer, there was a request like they want to automate this kind of thing,
I didn't know how to technically realize that at first, so I consulted the
two people from the stage manufacturer
and got a solution, that's how it was
はい
Yes
What I think is, after all, the work's
high quality
はい
Yes
The work's
well, the way of proceeding
まあ
well
after all it's the end. They do it properly until the very end

that part
without fail
キチです

Yes
Today Mr. Nagame is visiting, but what is your impression of Mr. Nagame

yes, the first time I met her was and
at that time, in her previous job, that request
she left immediately, and
to an extent unthinkable for a newcomer
She showed such veteran-like confidence that you'd think she'd done sales before
She doesn't pretend to know things, she properly asks when she doesn't understand
And then she gets back on the phone with what she heard from Mr. Ito — the fact that she can keep up that back-and-forth properly is probably her greatest strength
Well, in the first place
With confidence

She conveys what she thinks, she's really pushy, really comes on strong, well, whether she can do it or not she doesn't know, but that she wants to do it
That feeling of wanting to do it
Comes across, so
はい
Yes
That feeling of wanting to do something for the customer
Just that alone
Right. My wording is a bit harsh, but in a good way
Yeah. In a good way
Yes. Well, she's not intimidated
She's not intimidated. That's good. After finishing the meeting, we asked Ms. Nogami about her student days
In college I was in the equestrian club
Yes, I rode horses
I had a goal I wanted to achieve during those four years
So toward that, really all day long
Taking care of the horses and growing together with them
I think being able to have that kind of experience was unique to my student days
Right. The biggest thing is stamina, I think. Stamina. Yes
Both physically
And switching on and off
I had almost no time off, so doing it with clear focus when it's time to work, my use of time got much
Better, I think
I think I appealed that quite a bit in job hunting
Right. I hoped they'd think I'm an interesting kid, and that I'd leave an impression
As a student
Next, she visits a business partner to photograph additional samples requested by a client
Well then
Good work, good luck. Thank you. I'm off
After returning to the office, she analyzes the images taken at the visit
She also organizes the meeting notes and confirms future actions
Right, in getting the customer to adopt our software
Just analyzing one or two images
Isn't really enough to judge whether the software is actually usable, so we repeat verification with more data, and like this time
We get new images
Produce results and have them confirm if they're satisfied
Ms. Nogami works with in-house developers and partner companies to address customer needs
Finally, we asked her about her growth through work and her future goals
Um, first, being able to play an active role with discretion from a young age — after actually joining the company
I was surprised that story was true
When I'd been with the company for half a year, being sent out to clients on my own
Was pretty nerve-wracking
Was that quite tough? Yes. Not understanding things on site
And coming back just apologizing profusely, things like that happened
The answer lies with our customers
Meeting our customers' needs is
what is most expected of me, and I think that way of thinking
is what I've learned the most
For example, at first they didn't understand the value of this software
They didn't understand it. In the end, there was a disconnect around what it would actually be useful for
But as I kept listening to what the customers were actually doing and hearing about their analysis, I learned that what they were doing manually could be
automated like this, digitally transformed like this — I became able to make
proposals from the customer's perspective
and I think that's the result of repeated interviews
Watching you work all day,
you really seem to love your job
Really? How is it actually? Well, I've never once felt that I hate it. Being needed
makes me happy
When I think about my future five or ten years from now,
I picture my seniors who are five or ten years ahead of me
Those people have a great deal of technical knowledge from their experience, and they are relied upon by juniors
and help them out, so I want to aim to be like them
Our company lets young employees
become independent quickly and take on challenges, so
people who are quick to just try things first
are valued, and the fact that I'm here now, enjoying my work like this,
is fundamentally because I was just lucky, I think. Which department you're assigned to, who your boss will be — that's all
a matter of fate. So,
in terms of how to approach job hunting, with the basic premise that
it's luck, you can still think about what you want to do
or what you're suited for, so just work to increase the chances of those connections
and enjoy seeing what awaits you beyond that
That's what I think
Good work today. Looking back on the day. Yes
It was out of the ordinary, but I hope that having you follow me for the whole day conveyed how I work
To all job seekers,
I would be happy if you have
a connection with our company. Well then, good work today. Yes, thank you very much
