Hey, I'm John Canell, and today on Prep Your Kitchen, we're making a super quick and easy mug cake.
So let's get started.
First off, grab a large microwave-safe mug, 10 to 12 ounces, and now we're gonna make everything right in here, no bowls, almost no cleanup.
To our mug, we're adding a quarter cup of flour.
I'm not gonna use a scale today, so just sprinkle the flour into your measuring cup.
Remember, we only want to use enough flour to hold this together.
Grab a knife and level it off.
That goes right into the mug.
To sweeten and soften things, three tablespoons of granulated sugar.
This mug cake is the perfect thing to make when you feel like having a sweet treat.
Maybe it's the middle of the night, but you don't want to be up all night, wasting time, and have a lot of extra things left over.
Just one perfect portion, ready in a few minutes.
And three.
I'm also gonna use two tablespoons of cocoa powder.
This is a chocolate mug cake.
One.
1。
And two.
To puff things up, a quarter teaspoon of baking powder.
And a nice pinch of salt.
You can add a little bit more if you'd like.
If I'm having this cake with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream, I might want it to be a little bit saltier.
Give this a mix.
This is delicious as is, but if you wanted to, you could add a couple extra things: a quarter teaspoon of cinnamon and a pinch of cayenne pepper for a Mexican hot chocolate vibe, or you could add in a half teaspoon of espresso powder for more of a mocha cake.
Okay, stir, stir, stir.
This is an excellent opportunity for my tiny whisk.
Love this thing.
Practically perfect in every way, like this mug cake.
All whisked up and ready for the wet ingredients.
This recipe does not call for any eggs.
If you think about it, you probably have large eggs on hand.
Adding one egg is way too much, and it gives you a chewy cake.
We actually tried it out.
If you wanted to have part of an egg, it becomes problematic because it's really annoying to measure, and this is a quick and easy cake, so no egg needed.
It'll be delicious.
Gonna add a teaspoon of vanilla for some flavor.
A little more.
There we go.
And a quarter cup of whole milk.
Pour that right in.
I'm also adding in two tablespoons of veggie oil.
This will give us the fat that we need for that richness.
One.
1。
Two.
2。
Stir it up until it's well combined.
If you have a feeling that you might want to make a mug cake later, and you know that you do not feel like doing basically any work, mix up the dry ingredients, set that aside in a little ziplock bag or container, and you can just dump it into a mug and add the wet ingredients really quickly.
Scrape the bottom of your mug just to make sure there's no lumps of flour hanging around.
Finally, I'm going to add in about two tablespoons of semi-sweet chocolate chips, but any chocolate chips will do.
Or you could omit.
You do not need to use the chocolate chips.
If you wanted to, you could add a spoonful of peanut butter, caramel, cream cheese, Nutella, or biscuit, and it would be delicious.
You just mix it into the batter or serve it right on top so it melts in as soon as it comes out of the microwave.
And now our mug cake is ready to go into the microwave.
We're going to microwave this on high for 60 seconds and then give it a check.
If it's not dry in the center and puffed, 10 second increments until that's the case.
In you go.
入って。
After your mug cake cooks for 60 seconds, you can sprinkle a handful of chocolate chips on top.
They'll melt in and just add a little bit something extra.
Very optional though.
Then you'll continue microwaving in 10 second increments until the center looks dry and it's nice and puffed.
That needs to dry up.
I ended up cooking mine for just over 90 seconds.
In the center, it looks a little bit wet, but as this cools down, the residual heat will finish baking it.
And honestly, some of it is melted chocolate.
And just like that, your mug cake is ready to enjoy.
Have it plain with whipped cream or ice cream.
It's up to you.
Either way, it's going to be delicious.
You want to try it out?
Yeah.
うん。
It's really good.
We made it in the microwave.
Fudgy, tender, melt in your mouth, and perfectly sweet.
It's the perfect thing when you want a gooey, warm, delicious late night treat.
