What would make you want to start exercising or going to the gym?
実じつは私わたしがジムに行いこうかなと思おもったきっかけは
Actually, what made me think about going to the gym
姿勢しせいを良よくするための筋肉きんにくをつけたいと思おもったことでした
was that I wanted to build muscle to improve my posture.
大人おとなになってダンスを習ならい始はじめたときに
When I started taking dance lessons as an adult,
筋肉きんにくが足たりない
I realized I didn't have enough muscle,
だからきれいな姿勢しせいが保たもてないと思おもったんです
so I couldn't maintain good posture.
筋肉きんにくがないと仕事しごとで座すわっていてもすぐに疲つかれちゃいますしね
And without muscle, you get tired quickly just sitting at work, right?
だけどジムに通かよい慣なれない人ひとには本当ほんとうに難むずかしいんですよ
But it's really hard for someone who's not used to going to the gym.
それに音楽おんがくもなく一人ひとりで黙々もくもくと辛つらい動うごきを続つづけるのなんて
Plus, continuing painful movements alone in silence with no music
拷問ごうもんに近ちかいです
is close to torture.
拷問ごうもんというのは相手あいてを無理むりやり従したがわせるために体からだや心こころにわざと激はげしい痛いたみや苦くるしさを与あたえることです
Torture means deliberately inflicting intense pain or suffering on someone's body or mind to force them to obey.
ドラマなどではスパイに本当ほんとうのことを言いわせるためや
In dramas and such, you see it used to make spies tell the truth or

but if there are no fun moments at all during the workout,

I have a goal to improve my posture this year,
どうにかして毎日まいにち筋きんトレしたいと思おもわせてくれる情報じょうほうはないかと探さがしてみたんです
so I looked for any information that would somehow make me want to do strength training every day.
そこで見みつけたのが

二ふたつの研究結果けんきゅうけっかです
These are two research findings
一ひとつ目めは運動うんどうをしたら生活せいかつの質しつも上あがるというもの
The first is that exercising improves quality of life
二ふたつ目めは
The second is
イメトレだけで筋肉きんにくが増強ぞうきょうされるというもの
that muscles can be strengthened by mental imagery alone
増強ぞうきょうというのは漢字かんじの通とおり増ふえて強つよくなるという意味いみです
Strengthening means becoming increased and stronger, just as the kanji suggests
にわかに信しんじられないかもしれませんが
It may be hard to believe at first
実際じっさいに実験じっけんをして証明しょうめいされている効果こうかです
but it is an effect proven through actual experiments
にわかに何々なになにないというのは簡単かんたんには何々なになにない
"Niwaka ni ... nai" means not easily ...,
すぐには何々なになにないという意味いみです
meaning not immediately ...
それではにわかには信しんじられない筋きんトレとイメトレの効果こうかを紹介しょうかいしていきます
Now, let me introduce the hard-to-believe effects of muscle training and image training
まず私わたしの心こころを動うごかした一ひとつ目めの研究結果けんきゅうけっかについてお話はなししますね
First, let me talk about the first research result that moved me
オーストラリアのマッコーリー大学だいがくで2006年ねんに行おこなわれた実験じっけんです
It is an experiment conducted in 2006 at Macquarie University in Australia
この実験じっけんでは自己じこコントロール力りょくは筋肉きんにくのように鍛きたえることができると証明しょうめいしました
This experiment proved that self-control can be trained like a muscle
実験じっけん内容ないようは運動不足うんどうぶそくの男女だんじょを対象たいしょうに
In the experiment, men and women who lacked exercise were asked
ヶ月げつ間かんのジム通かよいを続つづけてもらいました
to continue going to the gym for months
その結果けっか、運動うんどうしたことによる身体しんたい的てきな効果こうかだけでなく
As a result, not only physical benefits from exercise
生活習慣せいかつしゅうかんにもいい変化へんかがあったことがわかりました
but also positive changes in lifestyle habits were found
そのいい変化へんかというのは次つぎのようなものです

Intake of addictive tobacco, alcohol, and caffeine naturally decreased
ジャンクフードを食たべる回数かいすうが減へり、健康的けんこうてきな食生活しょくせいかつになった
Eating junk food less often, leading to a healthier diet
感情かんじょうのコントロールが上手じょうずになった
Became better at controlling emotions
衝動買しょうどうがいや無駄遣むだづかいが減へって貯金ちょきんができるようになった
Impulse buying and wasteful spending decreased, and they became able to save money
先延さきのばしすることが減へり、学習がくしゅう習慣しゅうかんが改善かいぜんした
Procrastination decreased, and study habits improved
約束やくそくや義務ぎむをしっかり守まもるようになった
They began to keep promises and obligations properly
この実験じっけんでは何なにか一ひとつの分野ぶんやで自分じぶんを管理かんりし判断はんだんする訓練くんれんを始はじめると
This experiment showed that when you start training to manage and judge yourself in one area
脳のうの自己じこ制御せいぎょを司つかさどる領域りょういきが鍛きたえられることがわかりました
the brain region responsible for self-control is strengthened
その結果けっか、鍛きたえられた自制心じせいしん
As a result, the trained self-discipline
つまり

実際じっさいに体からだを動うごかさないで頭あたまの中なかでイメージして脳のうや神経しんけいをシミュレーションさせるメンタルトレーニングです

was conducted in year at Louisiana State University Medical Center in the USA
まず実験じっけんに参加さんかした人ひとには、実際じっさいの筋肉きんにくは完全かんぜんにリラックスさせた状態じょうたいのまま
First, participants were asked to imagine forcefully contracting their quadriceps in their minds, while keeping their actual muscles completely relaxed
脳内のうないで大腿四頭筋だいたいしとうきんを全力ぜんりょくで収縮しゅうしゅくさせているイメージをしてもらいました
to imagine forcefully contracting their quadriceps in their minds
大腿四頭筋だいたいしとうきんというのは太ふとももの前側まえがわにある筋肉きんにくです
The quadriceps are the muscles on the front of the thigh
このイメージトレーニングを1日いちにちに30分ふん、4日よっか

that means you'll get even better results than before, right?
そして筋きんトレをしていないときにもイメトレすれば最強さいきょうじゃないですか
And isn't it the best to do mental imagery training even when you're not working out?
イメトレだけならジムに行いって着替きがえなくてもいいし仕事しごとの合間あいまにもできるし寝ねる前まえの布団ふとんの中なかでもできるし
If it's just mental imagery training, you don't need to go to the gym and change clothes, you can do it between work, or in bed before sleep,
怠なまけ者ものには持もってこいの方法ほうほうですよね
It's the perfect method for lazy people, isn't it?
持もってこいというのは条件じょうけんや目的もくてきに最適さいてきだというときに使つかいます
The phrase 'perfect for' is used when something is ideal for certain conditions or purposes.
他ほかの言葉ことばで言いい換かえるとぴったり
