Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi revealed today that there was a consular notification from the Russian side informing of the detention
regarding this case on the 15th local time yesterday
there was a consular notification, but
on the other hand, we have not been able to contact this Japanese national
when a consular notification is made, a meeting with the detained person is generally possible in principle, but
he says they still have not been able to make contact
when will contact become possible
according to experts, there is an arrangement between Japan and Russia requiring consular access to be granted within 4 days of detention, but

when he was detained on suspicion
well, in this case, it took nearly three weeks until a meeting was allowed
and originally, there is an agreement between the U.S. and Russia as well, so a consular visit should have been conducted promptly, but

regarding a prisoner exchange, an expert says
that is the case. So between Japan and Russia, a bilateral prisoner exchange would likely be difficult
a multilateral prisoner exchange is said to be one possible means
he also points out that Russia may demand easing of sanctions against Russia as a condition for release
how will Russia move going forward
he says there are also concerns about future trials
if it becomes a full-scale trial, how it will actually develop
at that time, whether the detention will be prolonged
whether it will move in that direction, this is also a point of great concern

regarding the detained reporter
claims he was acting on instructions from Japanese intelligence agencies
Hokkaido Shimbun today issued a statement in the name of the managing editor that it never conducts reporting activities on government instructions
